Hardware and software readiness

A familiar laptop is not automatically an approved SAT device

The device must meet current Bluebook specifications, connect to the centre network and hold enough charge for the testing session.

Choose the device category first. College Board currently supports Windows laptops and tablets, Mac laptops, iPads and school-managed Chromebooks. Personal Chromebooks are not allowed, and a mobile phone cannot deliver the SAT. A school-managed device may need administrator installation and configuration. Confirm that the student is permitted to take the school device away from campus and connect it to an external test-centre network.

Check the live operating-system requirement. For the 2026–2027 school year, College Board lists minimums including Windows 11 24H2, macOS 15, iPadOS 26 and ChromeOS 144 for managed Chromebooks, with separate recommended maximum versions. These figures can move as systems are certified. Review the official page on the actual device close to test day and avoid an automatic major upgrade until support is confirmed.

Check hardware and storage. The universal requirements say laptop screens must be at least ten inches and tablet screens at least eight inches. Current tables list one gigabyte of free storage for Windows, Mac and Chromebook devices and 250 megabytes free on an iPad with sixteen gigabytes total storage. Minimum battery life for the SAT Suite is three hours, while student guidance recommends a device that can hold a charge for three to four hours.

Review accessories and prohibited environments. External mice are allowed. External keyboards are not permitted with laptops; SAT and PSAT users may use an external keyboard with an iPad, while Windows tablet guidance strongly recommends one. Application virtualization is prohibited, and the device must operate independently rather than through a virtual machine, thin client or remote environment. Windows S mode, Windows 11 SE and ChromeOS Flex are not supported under current specifications.

If an approved device is unavailable, follow the official lending process early. Register for a test date at least thirty days away, indicate uncertainty about access to a necessary device and then request a device from My SAT at least thirty days before test day. An eligible adult who is not a family member must verify the need. Submission does not guarantee a loaned device; if approved, the device is collected at the centre and the student arrives thirty minutes early for setup.

MKS Education can help students practise on Bluebook-compatible routines while its own iOS and Android SAT app, recordings, physical books and teacher feedback support learning. Physical, online and hybrid classes run through an eight-week guided course with six-month access and continued support. Students needing more repetition may join multiple suitable classes without another class charge, subject to schedule and seats. MKS cannot approve a device or guarantee a College Board loan.

Diagnose first

Use a timed Bluebook practice result and a domain-level error log instead of choosing a plan from a guessed score.

Match the goal

Connect the test date, score decision and preparation schedule to the real university and scholarship timeline.

Verify claims

Use College Board and official university pages for changing rules, dates, fees, formats and score-use policies.

Evidence table

Turn the decision into checks you can verify

Save the source URL and the date you checked it. A clear table is more reliable than memory or a verbal promise.

WindowsPersonal or school-managed laptop or tablet.Current OS storage settings and no S mode or Windows SE.

BatteryTesting may continue without an outlet.Three-hour minimum and charge for 3–4 hours.
Virtual environmentRemote or virtual delivery is prohibited. No VM thin client or application virtualization.
Device lendingProvides a possible path when no device is available.Register and request at least 30 days early; not guaranteed.
MKS Education: MKS can help a student compare the intended device with the current checklist and practise before the test. Device approval and lending decisions belong to College Board, so always verify the live specifications rather than relying only on this dated guide.
Connected preparation

What makes the MKS SAT learning system different

The live class, revision, independent practice and extended support work together instead of ending on the last teaching day.

Physical online and hybrid

Choose a suitable mode and confirm the current timetable; the system supports Kathmandu and outside-Kathmandu learners.

Recordings in every mode

Physical, online and hybrid students can revisit difficult concepts and recover missed work.

iOS and Android practice

Use structured SAT practice and review through the MKS digital learning system outside class.

Physical books

Follow organised print material alongside app practice, teacher guidance and official digital resources.

Eight weeks plus six months

Eight weeks of guided teaching connects to six-month learning access and continued support.

Multiple suitable classes

Students needing more repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge, subject to the current schedule and seats.

Practical next steps

  • Open the current approved-devices page on the exact device.
  • Check operating system storage screen charge and installation permissions.
  • Take a Bluebook practice test on the device planned for test day.
  • Request a College Board device at least 30 days early if no approved option exists.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Do not plan to use a phone or personal Chromebook for the SAT.
  • Do not run Bluebook through a virtual machine or remote environment.
  • Do not install a major operating-system upgrade without checking support.
  • Do not assume a submitted device request guarantees a loan.
Current test context

Prepare for the digital SAT that students actually take

College Board states that the SAT contains a 64-minute Reading and Writing section and a 70-minute Math section. Each has two adaptive modules, with a 10-minute break between the sections.

Reading and Writing

  • 54 questions across two 32-minute modules.
  • Build information and ideas, craft and structure, expression of ideas and standard English conventions.
  • Review why the correct answer is supported and why each close alternative fails.
  • Track both accuracy and time by domain before relying on full-test averages.

Math

  • 44 questions across two 35-minute modules.
  • Build Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry.
  • Choose deliberately between mental work, algebra and the built-in graphing calculator.
  • Review conceptual, translation, calculator and careless-error patterns separately.

Can a Nepali student use a personal Chromebook for the SAT?

No. College Board permits school-managed Chromebooks with the required configuration, not personal Chromebooks.

Can I use a mobile phone as the digital SAT device?

No. Mobile phones are not approved testing devices.

What operating system does Bluebook require in 2026?

Requirements vary by device and can change. The current 2026–2027 page lists Windows 11 24H2, macOS 15, iPadOS 26 and ChromeOS 144 as minimums for their supported categories. Recheck live.

Can College Board lend a device for the SAT?

College Board may provide one subject to eligibility and availability. Register and submit the request at least thirty days before test day; a request does not guarantee a device.

Does the MKS SAT app replace an approved Bluebook device?

No. The MKS app supports preparation, while the official SAT must run in Bluebook on a currently approved device.
