Digital SAT Device Requirements for Nepali Students 2026
Match the exact device and operating system to the live Bluebook requirements, then practise and complete readiness checks before test day.
A familiar laptop is not automatically an approved SAT device
The device must meet current Bluebook specifications, connect to the centre network and hold enough charge for the testing session.
Choose the device category first. College Board currently supports Windows laptops and tablets, Mac laptops, iPads and school-managed Chromebooks. Personal Chromebooks are not allowed, and a mobile phone cannot deliver the SAT. A school-managed device may need administrator installation and configuration. Confirm that the student is permitted to take the school device away from campus and connect it to an external test-centre network.
Check the live operating-system requirement. For the 2026–2027 school year, College Board lists minimums including Windows 11 24H2, macOS 15, iPadOS 26 and ChromeOS 144 for managed Chromebooks, with separate recommended maximum versions. These figures can move as systems are certified. Review the official page on the actual device close to test day and avoid an automatic major upgrade until support is confirmed.
Check hardware and storage. The universal requirements say laptop screens must be at least ten inches and tablet screens at least eight inches. Current tables list one gigabyte of free storage for Windows, Mac and Chromebook devices and 250 megabytes free on an iPad with sixteen gigabytes total storage. Minimum battery life for the SAT Suite is three hours, while student guidance recommends a device that can hold a charge for three to four hours.
Review accessories and prohibited environments. External mice are allowed. External keyboards are not permitted with laptops; SAT and PSAT users may use an external keyboard with an iPad, while Windows tablet guidance strongly recommends one. Application virtualization is prohibited, and the device must operate independently rather than through a virtual machine, thin client or remote environment. Windows S mode, Windows 11 SE and ChromeOS Flex are not supported under current specifications.
If an approved device is unavailable, follow the official lending process early. Register for a test date at least thirty days away, indicate uncertainty about access to a necessary device and then request a device from My SAT at least thirty days before test day. An eligible adult who is not a family member must verify the need. Submission does not guarantee a loaned device; if approved, the device is collected at the centre and the student arrives thirty minutes early for setup.

Prepare for the digital SAT that students actually take
College Board states that the SAT contains a 64-minute Reading and Writing section and a 70-minute Math section. Each has two adaptive modules, with a 10-minute break between the sections.
Reading and Writing
- 54 questions across two 32-minute modules.
- Build information and ideas, craft and structure, expression of ideas and standard English conventions.
- Review why the correct answer is supported and why each close alternative fails.
- Track both accuracy and time by domain before relying on full-test averages.
Math
- 44 questions across two 35-minute modules.
- Build Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry.
- Choose deliberately between mental work, algebra and the built-in graphing calculator.
- Review conceptual, translation, calculator and careless-error patterns separately.

Can a Nepali student use a personal Chromebook for the SAT?
