Master’s Degree Cost in UK for Nepali Students 2026 to 2027

A one-year UK master’s can be shorter than many international postgraduate degrees, but the cost is concentrated into a tight period. Nepali students may need tuition deposits, visa funds, accommodation payments and travel money before the course begins. This guide uses official information checked on 24 July 2026 and provides a method for comparing 2026/27 offers.

Quick answer: There is no single UK master’s fee. Bournemouth University publishes £18,900 to £23,000 for overseas taught master’s courses starting in September 2026 or January 2027. The University of Brighton lists standard international postgraduate taught fees from £17,748 to £21,114 for 2026/27. UCL’s published overseas master’s range is much wider, £14,500 to £70,300, because course prices differ sharply. These are examples; the exact course page and offer letter control your budget.

The six parts of a master’s budget

  1. Tuition fee: confirm the fee for the exact course, mode and start date.
  2. Deposit: an advance part-payment of tuition, often required before CAS. Do not add it twice to the total.
  3. Living costs: rent, utilities, food, transport and personal expenses for the actual period you will be in the UK.
  4. Immigration and travel: Student visa fee, Immigration Health Surcharge, flights and travel to your university city.
  5. Course costs: placements, fieldwork, equipment, software, professional checks or dissertation travel.
  6. Contingency: exchange-rate movement, delayed work income, emergency travel and price changes.

Headline ranges are useful only for orientation. A laboratory, clinical, architecture, specialist business or premium programme may sit outside a university’s standard band. Search the live course page, select the correct entry year and confirm whether the figure is per year or for the whole programme.

One-year does not always mean twelve months of spending

Many taught master’s courses run for roughly twelve months, but accommodation contracts, arrival dates, placement periods, resits and graduation plans can extend the time you fund yourself. Some January-start programmes last into a second calendar year. A course with placement can add a separate year and a reduced placement fee. Budget by dates, not by the phrase “one-year master’s”.

Deposit and remaining tuition

A tuition deposit is normally credited toward the fee, not charged on top. For September 2026 entry, Brighton states a £5,000 deposit for CAS, while Bournemouth’s 2026/27 policy states a £5,000 deposit for most countries and regions, with higher requirements for specified regions. University rules differ. Record deposit paid, confirmed scholarship and remaining balance separately, then note each instalment deadline.

Student visa funds versus real living cost

Current UKVI maintenance levels are £1,529 per month in London and £1,171 per month outside London for up to nine months, subject to the rules applying on your application date. These figures are an immigration evidence calculation, not a guarantee that rent and daily life will fit that amount. Price real accommodation, utilities and travel in the chosen city. If the course lasts beyond nine months, plan for the entire stay even though the visa calculation is capped.

A practical offer-comparison sheet

  • Course name, duration and start/end dates.
  • Tuition before and after a confirmed scholarship.
  • Deposit amount, deadline and refund policy.
  • Whether a placement, research year or field trip costs extra.
  • Accommodation contract length and advance-payment terms.
  • London or outside-London location and realistic monthly budget.
  • Visa, health surcharge, flights and Nepal-to-UK transfer fees.
  • Contingency reserve and the exchange rate used for planning.

Compare the net total, not the size of a scholarship badge. A £5,000 award on a £30,000 course still costs more than a £2,000 award on a £22,000 course. Check whether the award is automatic or competitive, whether it can be combined with another discount and whether it is shown on your offer or CAS.

How families can reduce risk

  • Begin funding research early; UCL advises starting around twelve months before the academic year where possible.
  • Keep tuition and living funds traceable and follow current UKVI evidence rules.
  • Pay only through the university’s official portal or confirmed payment partner.
  • Read withdrawal, deferral and visa-refusal refund clauses before paying.
  • Do not plan to cover the whole budget through part-time work.
  • Keep a reserve outside the minimum visa calculation.
