Study in Korea: 2027 intake planning.

Match the class start to your academic readiness, language preparation, financial evidence and visa timeline. A semester start is not an application deadline.

01

Spring 2027 · Degree study

Many spring programmes start around March, with applications much earlier. Some 2027 application windows have already closed. Confirm your specific course and international-admission calendar before making plans.

02

Autumn 2027 · Degree study

Research the next autumn entry early. For example, KAIST lists its 2027 regular application period as 10 November 2026–14 January 2027, ending at 6 p.m. Korean Standard Time. Other institutions set different dates.

03

2027 · Korean-language sessions

Language institutes may offer spring, summer, autumn and winter sessions. SNU KLEC lists its spring 2027 course for 8 March–14 May, with applications from 2 November–24 December 2026. Check the session and visa-document rules.

These are published examples, not a nationwide deadline or a promise of available places. Check KAIST’s admission calendar and SNU’s language calendar for the full schedules and any changes.

Your learning experience

Why study in Korea? Match the course to your goals.

Compare the actual course and campus alongside the destination’s opportunities.

01

Technology and subject choice

Explore suitable programmes in science, engineering, business, design and other fields. Compare modules, prerequisites, teaching language and the final qualification.

02

Research and academic depth

For graduate study, examine faculty interests, laboratories, supervision and project fit. Check any research funding and duties in writing.

03

Language and cultural learning

Develop the language needed for your course and everyday life. Check whether an English-taught programme still includes Korean-language or graduation requirements.

04

Different cities and budgets

Compare Seoul with other university locations. Housing availability, transport, student services and living costs can change the practical value of an option.

Degree study · D-2

Plan your degree study in Korea.

After +2, explore suitable bachelor’s programmes. After a bachelor’s or master’s, investigate relevant graduate study, prerequisites and research fit. Check recognition of your Nepali qualification and the institution’s international-admission criteria.

  • D-2-2: bachelor’s degree study.
  • D-2-3: master’s degree study.
  • D-2-4: doctoral degree study.
  • Other D-2 subcategories cover associate degrees, exchanges and specified academic activities.
  • Check teaching language, required results, duration and the full course budget.

Korean-language training · D-4-1

Treat language study as its own programme.

University-affiliated Korean-language training can help build proficiency for further study. Compare class hours, session length, attendance requirements, accommodation and the number of sessions you must register for.

  • A language-course offer is not a degree admission.
  • Check whether the institution can issue the required admission documents.
  • Confirm the applicable language and financial evidence for Nepal.
  • Plan any later degree application and visa-status change separately.
  • Read the actual tuition, refund and deferral conditions before paying.

Read the government’s D-2 and D-4 guidance.

Funding options

Scholarships for study in Korea: check the conditions.

Global Korea Scholarship · GKS

Review the current undergraduate or graduate call, application track, eligible institutions, nationality rules and deadline. Benefits and selection requirements belong to that year’s official notice.

University awards

Compare entry awards, academic-progress requirements and renewal terms. A tuition waiver and a living stipend cover different costs.

Graduate research support

Ask departments or prospective supervisors about available funding, its duration and any research or teaching duties. Rely on written confirmation.

A published example: KAIST undergraduate scholarship

KAIST lists tuition exemption for eight semesters, KRW 350,000 per month and medical health insurance for eligible international undergraduate students admitted under its scholarship arrangements.

The university states an ongoing GPA requirement above 2.7 out of 4.3 after the first year. Read the application and continuation conditions before using an award in your budget.

Keep a budget for costs the award does not cover. A scholarship application or counselling enquiry is not an award commitment.

Study → develop skills → next step

Understand the Korea student journey.

Keep your academic purpose, immigration conditions and future career plan connected.

01

Study and maintain your status

Follow your enrolment, attendance and residence conditions. Complete the required immigration registration after arrival and arrange health cover and accommodation.

02

Check permission before part-time work

Eligibility, permitted hours and language conditions vary by visa and course. Obtain the required immigration permission before working and confirm the rules with your institution.

03

Plan a qualifying graduate-stage route

After eligible study, investigate the current D-10 job-seeking or appropriate employment-status requirements. Later permission is a separate application, with no automatic job or permanent residence.

Use the official residence and student-work guidance and employment-status information. A future part-time job should not replace a credible study-funding plan.

Your application roadmap

How to study in Korea from Nepal.

Work backwards from the programme’s actual deadline, document requirements and visa process.

01

Profile and study purpose

Review your academics, subjects, study history, goals and budget. Decide whether you are applying for a degree or Korean-language training.

02

Course, language and institution

Check course content, recognition, entry criteria, teaching language and language evidence. Confirm the institution’s current admission arrangements for Nepal.

03

Documents and application

Prepare accurate academic records, translations, study plans and references as required. Arrange the applicable consular verification and follow the actual deadline.

04

Offer and budget review

Read the admission terms, fee schedule, scholarship conditions and refund policy. Obtain the required standard admission and institution documents.

05

Nepal visa preparation

Use the current D-2/D-4 checklist. Organise the appropriate financial records, language evidence and designated-hospital TB report, then follow current submission instructions.

06

Arrival and enrolment

Follow your approval and entry instructions, arrange accommodation and insurance, and complete enrolment and immigration registration requirements.

MKS helps organise preparation. Universities decide admission and Korean authorities decide visa applications. Check the Korean Embassy in Nepal’s student checklist.

Nepal document planning

Prepare consistent evidence for your study route.

  • Passport, required photograph and visa application details.
  • Standard admission letter and the institution’s registration documents.
  • Academic certificates and transcripts, with required consular verification.
  • Study plan, purpose and relevant language results.
  • Financial evidence, sponsor documents and written scholarship evidence where applicable.
  • Translations and notarisation for Nepali-language documents as required.
  • The designated-hospital tuberculosis report and any additional requested evidence.

The Embassy’s student checklist, updated in 2026, requests recent six-month bank transaction statements. Check document validity and the acceptance of graduation or provisional certificates before submission.

Use the Nepal checklist, not a generic overseas list.

The institution, study route, sponsorship and current local process can change what you must submit. Confirm the latest instructions and visa-centre arrangements before booking appointments or obtaining time-limited documents.

For the TB report, use a hospital on the Embassy’s current designated list. Do not assume that a routine medical certificate from any clinic is sufficient.

This is an application-planning guide; the official checklist and any additional requests govern your submission.

Choose the teaching language

TOPIK, IELTS and the course language matter.

For Korean-track study, check the required TOPIK level and any language or graduation conditions. For English-track study, check the accepted English tests, minimum scores, component requirements and validity.

The Korean Embassy in Nepal lists TOPIK for Korean-track and IELTS or TOEFL for English-track applications, with stated exceptions. A university admission policy and a local visa-document requirement need separate checks.

TOPIK is different from EPS-TOPIK.

TOPIK supports academic and general Korean proficiency assessment. EPS-TOPIK is associated with the Employment Permit System. Use the test accepted for your actual student application.

If you start with a Korean-language course, ask the institution about admission evidence, attendance and the later degree-entry process before paying.

Prepare with MKS Education

Build the skills your chosen course requires.

Select a test after checking the actual university programme and current Nepal visa requirements.

01

IELTS preparation for accepted English-track study

Prepare Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking through MKS online, physical or hybrid classes. Use the IELTS practice LMS between lessons and plan for your required component scores.

02

Graduate-admission test planning

Some departments consider additional admission tests. Check whether your target programme requires or accepts GRE or GMAT before preparing or booking; these are not universal Korea admission requirements.

Questions before you apply

Study in Korea FAQs for Nepali students

Clear answers about degree and language study, intakes, costs and your application plan.

How can I study in Korea from Nepal?

Choose a suitable South Korean institution, programme and teaching language. Meet its entry requirements, obtain the required admission documents, and prepare financial and visa evidence for the appropriate D-2 or D-4 route. MKS Education can help organise your shortlist, budget, application preparation and test plan.

What is the difference between a D-2 and D-4-1 visa?

D-2 covers degree study and specified academic activities, with subcategories for different levels. D-4-1 is for Korean-language training. A language-course admission is not an admission to a degree and does not automatically allow a later change of status.

What are the Korea intakes for 2027?

Degree programmes commonly begin in spring around March and autumn around September, although university calendars vary. University language institutes may offer four sessions. Check the actual application deadline, document deadline and class start; these are different dates.

How much does it cost to study in Korea from Nepal?

Use the exact programme quote and add housing, meals, insurance, transport, materials, document preparation and travel. KAIST currently publishes annual undergraduate tuition of KRW 6,866,000 before scholarship. SNU KLEC’s regular morning Korean course lists KRW 1,800,000 for one 10-week session. These are different types of study and are not all-inclusive prices.

What monthly living budget should I plan for South Korea?

The government Study in Korea guide publishes an approximate KRW 750,000–1,000,000 monthly planning range. Actual spending can be higher depending on city, housing and lifestyle. Check current accommodation, deposits, meals, insurance and transport; this estimate is not a visa financial-evidence minimum.

Is IELTS required to study in Korea?

Requirements depend on the programme and teaching language. The Korean Embassy in Nepal’s student checklist lists TOPIK for Korean-track study and IELTS or TOEFL for English-track study, with specified exceptions. Confirm both the institution’s admission criteria and the current Nepal visa checklist before choosing a test.

Are TOPIK and EPS-TOPIK the same test?

No. TOPIK is the academic and general Korean proficiency test used for relevant study requirements. EPS-TOPIK belongs to the Employment Permit System. Do not substitute an employment-test result for a university or student-visa language requirement without explicit acceptance.

Can I study in Korea after +2?

You can explore undergraduate programmes if your qualification, subjects and results meet the institution’s criteria. Check the teaching language, required proficiency, course duration and total budget. A university language course is a separate option with its own admission and progression conditions.

What documents are needed for a Korea student visa from Nepal?

Follow the current Korean Embassy in Nepal checklist for your route. It includes admission and institution documents, identity and academic evidence, a study plan, relevant language results, financial records and a tuberculosis report from a designated hospital. Check consular verification, translations, document validity and any additional requests.

How much bank balance is required for a Korea student visa?

Do not rely on one unofficial amount for every student. Confirm the current university and Nepal visa requirements for your route, study period and funding. Prepare credible, available funds and supporting records; the Embassy’s current checklist requests six months of bank transaction statements. A scholarship needs its own written evidence.

Can Nepali students get scholarships in Korea?

Eligible students can research Global Korea Scholarship and university awards. GKS tracks, participating programmes and deadlines depend on the current call. KAIST’s published international undergraduate award includes tuition support, a monthly stipend and health insurance, subject to admission and ongoing conditions. An application is not a guaranteed award.

Can I work while studying in South Korea?

Eligible students need the required immigration permission before part-time work. Conditions and hours depend on visa status, study level, Korean proficiency and other criteria. Language trainees have additional eligibility conditions. Keep study and attendance central, and do not depend on a future job to prove your finances.

Does studying in Korea guarantee a job or permanent residence?

No. Later job-seeking or employment status has separate eligibility and application requirements. Check current D-10 or relevant employment routes with Korean immigration for your circumstances. Admission, graduation and a student visa do not guarantee employment or permanent residence.
