Eight weeks work when each stage changes the next one

A calendar is useful only when fresh evidence controls priorities. Do not keep repeating the same questions while the error pattern remains unchanged.

Before week 1, verify why the GRE is being taken. Check each programme’s official page for whether scores are required, optional, accepted or not used, and note the earliest application or funding deadline. Record the relevant Quantitative, Verbal and Analytical Writing expectations when the programme publishes them. A general target score without programme context can direct valuable time toward the wrong measure.

Weeks 1–2 should establish the baseline and foundations. Use a fresh official POWERPREP experience under realistic timing, then classify wrong and slow answers by content, question family and process. Review arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis as needed; begin vocabulary in context, sentence logic and passage structure; and write one Issue response for feedback. Build an error log that records the cause, correction and a new test of the same skill.

Weeks 3–4 should complete the core methods rather than chase full tests. In Quant, practise translation, comparison, modelling, estimation and data interpretation. In Verbal, connect Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence to logical clues, and Reading Comprehension to passage purpose and evidence. In Writing, develop positions, reasons, examples and paragraph control. Add short timed sets only after the student can explain why the correct answer works and the alternatives fail.

Weeks 5–6 shift toward mixed and timed work. Combine question families so the student must identify the method without a chapter label. Practise the official section clocks, mark-and-review decisions and the on-screen calculator appropriately. Review correct answers that took too long or relied on luck, not only incorrect answers. One full mock is useful only when the following lessons repair its errors and retest them with unseen questions.

Week 7 uses a fresh official timed POWERPREP simulation. Reproduce the current order with Analytical Writing first and Verbal and Quantitative sections following in either order. Compare the result with the programme-focused target, section completion, repeated errors and endurance. If a major gap remains, use the week for focused repair and consider changing the appointment before the official deadline rather than pretending that one more mock guarantees improvement.

Week 8 consolidates rather than crams. Revisit the error log, complete selected timed sets, practise the test-day sequence and verify the ETS appointment, acceptable ID, route or at-home requirements and score recipients. MKS Education supports this plan through physical, online and hybrid classes, recordings in every mode, iOS and Android practice, physical books, six-month access and continued support. Students needing repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge, subject to schedules and seats.

Diagnose first

Use an official-format baseline and classify Quant Verbal and Writing errors before choosing weekly priorities.

Match the goal

Connect the test date and preparation schedule to official programme and funding deadlines.

Verify claims

Use ETS and official university pages for changing format, fees, dates and score-use policies.

Evidence table

Turn the comparison into checks you can verify

Use the same questions for every provider and save the written answer. A transparent system is easier to compare than a headline promise.

Before week 1The test must fit the application.Programme policy deadline and score use.
Week 1A valid baseline prevents guesswork.Timed POWERPREP and error categories.
Week 2Foundations control later speed.Math language and writing gaps.
Week 3Core Quant methods need deliberate practice.Translation comparison modelling and data.
Week 4Verbal and Writing need structured reasoning.Logic evidence organisation and feedback.
Week 5Mixed sets test method recognition.Accuracy before tighter timing.
Week 6Section clocks expose pacing choices.Timed sections and mark-review decisions.
Week 7Fresh simulation tests the complete routine.Official timed POWERPREP.

What makes the MKS GRE learning system different

The live class, revision, independent practice and extended support work together instead of ending on the last teaching day.

Physical online and hybrid

Choose a suitable mode and confirm the current timetable for Kathmandu or remote learning.

Recordings in every mode

Physical, online and hybrid students can revisit difficult concepts and recover missed work.

iOS and Android practice

Use structured GRE practice and review through the MKS digital learning system outside class.

Physical books

Follow organised print material alongside app practice, teacher guidance and official ETS resources.

Eight weeks plus six months

Eight weeks of guided teaching connects to six-month learning access and continued support.

Multiple suitable classes

Students needing repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge, subject to schedule and seats.

Practical next steps

  • Verify programme policies and take a fresh official baseline.
  • Assign weekly priorities from error categories rather than preference.
  • Use timed sections only after core methods are understood.
  • Make the final test-date decision from a fresh official simulation.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Do not use the same weekly plan for every student.
  • Do not spend the first month only memorising vocabulary.
  • Do not take full mocks without correction and retesting.
  • Do not cram new material in the final days before the appointment.
Current test context

Prepare for the GRE General Test students now take

ETS lists one 30-minute Analytical Writing task, two Verbal Reasoning sections and two Quantitative Reasoning sections in the shorter computer-delivered General Test.

Analytical Writing

One 30-minute Analyze an Issue task assesses clear ideas, reasons, examples, organisation and written control.

Verbal Reasoning

Two sections contain 12 and 15 questions with 18 and 23 minutes respectively.

Quantitative Reasoning

Two sections contain 12 and 15 questions with 21 and 26 minutes respectively.

Build your GRE plan from diagnostic evidence

Bring target programmes, the earliest deadline and a recent official-format diagnostic. MKS can organise an eight-week guided plan with flexible modes, recordings, app practice, books, six-month access and continued support.

Is eight weeks enough for GRE preparation?

It can be a useful guided period, but readiness depends on the official-format baseline, weekly capacity, section gaps and programme priorities. Extend the plan when evidence requires it.

What should I do in the first week?

Verify programme policies, take a fresh timed POWERPREP baseline, write an Issue response and classify wrong, slow and uncertain answers.

When should I take a full GRE mock?

Use a baseline at the start and a fresh official timed simulation near week 7, with targeted section practice and error correction between them.

How many hours should I study each week?

Choose a sustainable number of focused hours that includes learning, practice and review. Available time and learning needs differ, so there is no universal total.

What happens after the eight-week MKS course?

MKS connects the guided course to six-month learning access and continued support, subject to the current programme terms.
