GRE ScoreSelect Guide for Nepali Students

Start with the difference between a test administration and an individual section. ScoreSelect works at the administration level. A student cannot combine the Quantitative score from one test date with the Verbal score from another to create a new report. When one administration is selected, the report includes the scores from that chosen GRE General Test date. This makes a complete timed practice record important before deciding whether a retake is likely to strengthen the full score profile.

On test day at a test centre, ETS currently allows the student to choose not to send scores at that moment or use Most Recent or All for each of four included score reports. Most Recent sends the current administration. All sends all General Test administrations from the last five years. Prepare institution names and codes before the appointment, but verify department instructions because a central graduate-school recipient may not replace a separate application step.

After test day, Additional Score Reports can be ordered through the ETS account for a current official fee. The options are Most Recent, All or Any. Any allows one or as many selected administrations as the student wishes from the reportable five-year history. ETS currently says online requests take approximately five business days to process and that submitted requests cannot be cancelled, changed or refunded. Add the institution’s own matching time before its deadline.

Do not assume that selecting fewer scores is always permitted. ETS specifically advises applicants to check programme requirements because some programmes require applicants who tested more than once to report scores from every GRE administration. Read the current department and graduate-school pages, not only a general university page. When wording is unclear, ask the official admissions contact in writing and save the response with the application record.

Compare administrations in the context of the target programme. ETS reports Verbal and Quantitative scores separately on 130–170 scales and Analytical Writing on a 0–6 scale. A programme may care more about a relevant measure than the simple V+Q total, and percentile ranks provide additional context. Avoid declaring one attempt universally best from the total alone. Use the official programme policy, cohort information if published and the full application profile.
