Analytical Writing always comes first, so the opening routine matters. A practical rehearsal might reserve a few minutes to analyse the issue and choose a defensible position, most of the time for a coherent response, and a final review for clarity and serious errors. The exact split should come from repeated practice rather than a universal formula. Students who start typing without a line of reasoning often spend longer repairing structure later.

For Verbal, accuracy should lead pacing. The first section has 12 questions in 18 minutes, while the second has 15 in 23 minutes. The mixture of question types can vary, so do not expect each item to deserve identical time. Complete clear Text Completion or Sentence Equivalence decisions efficiently, read passages for structure and evidence, and mark unusually expensive questions for a second pass. The review screen is useful only if sufficient time remains to act on it.

Read the response requirement before calculating because a multiple-selection question and Numeric Entry require different final actions. Use estimation, algebraic structure and answer choices before opening the calculator. If a question is consuming the section, make the best supported response, mark it and protect time for the remaining questions. ETS says no points are subtracted for an incorrect answer.

Build pacing in layers. Start with untimed accuracy and an error log, then practise small timed sets, official section lengths and finally the complete POWERPREP sequence. Review not only wrong answers but also correct answers that took too long or depended on luck. Record time pressure, misreads, repeated calculations, vocabulary gaps and interface mistakes. The goal is a stable process across fresh questions, not one unusually high practice result.
