For STEM OPT planning, confirm the exact CIP code with the university and later on the Form I-20, then compare it with current DHS information. USCIS explains that the qualifying degree’s CIP code must appear on the DHS STEM list for the extension, along with other eligibility conditions. A similar title at another university does not prove the same result.
Evaluate the whole laboratory environment
Compare faculty fit, instrument access, safety training, rotation structure, thesis supervision, publication expectations and the time normally needed to complete the degree.
