CSS Profile and Financial Aid Guide for Nepali Students Applying to USA 2026–2027
A careful guide for Nepali families completing CSS Profile for institutional financial aid, using home-currency data, required documents and college-specific deadlines.
Submit CSS Profile only when the institution requests it
CSS Profile is a College Board application used by participating colleges and scholarship programmes to assess nonfederal institutional aid. International applicants should verify that each college accepts CSS Profile from international students, use consistent family financial information, follow the institution’s deadline and complete any requested IDOC or separate documents.
Distinguish institutional aid from admission and visa funding
College Board describes CSS Profile as an application for institutional, nonfederal aid. It is not a university application, admission decision, scholarship guarantee, Form I-20 or visa form. A college may use the information to assess institutional need-based aid while applying its own policy and budget.
Check the current participating-institution list and the college’s international financial-aid page. Some colleges use CSS Profile for domestic students but not for international applicants; others may use a separate form.
| Financial area | Information to organise | Consistency check |
|---|---|---|
| Family income | Employment, business, pension and other income sources | Currency, period and supporting records |
| Assets | Savings, investments, property and business interests as requested | Ownership and current valuation method |
| Expenses and obligations | Household, education, medical or debt information requested | Avoid unsupported estimates or omitted obligations |
| Parent household | Custodial, noncustodial, separated or remarried family details | Follow the application’s parent definitions |
| Student resources | Savings, income, scholarships and expected support | Match admission and visa financial explanations |
| Documents | Tax, income, bank or other records requested through the college or IDOC | Correct people, year, translation and upload route |
Enter Nepali information in the requested format
College Board states that international families can enter values in their home currency and the platform handles conversion. Use one currency consistently where the application instructs, and do not manually convert selected items unless asked. Record the basis for estimates such as property or business values so later explanations remain consistent.
Nepalese tax and income documents may not look like US forms. Use the international help guidance and answer according to the actual family record rather than forcing information into a category that does not fit. Ask the college when a required document does not exist in the family’s context.
Follow the platform definitions carefully
Divorced, separated or remarried families may face additional parent requirements. Some institutions ask a noncustodial parent to complete a separate CSS Profile. Do not share one parent’s confidential login or information with another when the process provides separate access.
If contact or documentation is genuinely impossible, use the official waiver or explanation process when available. A family situation should be described truthfully and supported as requested; do not simply omit a parent because their information reduces aid eligibility.
Upload only after an official request
IDOC is College Board’s document collection service for participating institutions. Not every CSS Profile applicant uses it. If selected, the dashboard identifies required people, documents and deadlines. Verify family information before upload, use clear complete files and follow translation instructions.
Do not email sensitive bank, income or identity documents to an unverified address. Use the college, CSS Profile or IDOC portal specified in the official instruction.
Track each institution separately
Financial-aid deadlines may differ from admission deadlines and may use Eastern Time. An early application plan can have an earlier aid deadline. After submission, review the dashboard for receipts, missing items and permitted corrections. Adding another institution can involve a separate step and charge.
If a family’s circumstances change materially, contact the college financial-aid office through its official channel. Do not silently change one application while leaving contradictory figures in admission or visa records.

CSS Profile questions from Nepali families
Do all US colleges require CSS Profile from Nepali students?
No. Only participating colleges or scholarship programmes use it, and some do not request it from international applicants. Check the current institution list and each college’s aid page.
Can an international family enter amounts in Nepali rupees?
College Board states that international applicants can enter information in their home currency and the system performs currency conversion. Follow the live application instructions.
Is CSS Profile the same as FAFSA?
No. CSS Profile is used by participating institutions for nonfederal institutional aid. FAFSA is the US federal aid application and has separate eligibility rules.
Does submitting CSS Profile guarantee financial aid?
No. It provides financial information for institutions that use it. Aid eligibility, amount, budget and documentation are determined by the college or scholarship programme.
Will a Nepali applicant automatically receive a CSS Profile fee waiver?
Do not assume so. College Board’s automatic fee-waiver rules focus on eligible domestic undergraduate applicants. International applicants should check the current charge and ask the college or College Board about alternatives when cost is a barrier.
How can MKS Education help with financial-aid planning?
MKS Education helps students coordinate university research, scholarship and aid deadlines, SAT or graduate tests, English tests and consistent application evidence without promising an award.
