An ethical, practical essay workflow for Nepali applicants writing Common App personal essays and US college supplements without losing authenticity.

Quick answer

Write an essay only the student could honestly write

A useful US college essay answers the exact prompt, adds information beyond grades, uses specific evidence and shows reflection. It should sound like the applicant, not a template, consultant or text generator. Draft early, revise for meaning before grammar, and verify the current prompt and word limit in the official application.

Essay types

Separate the personal essay from supplements

The Common App personal essay can be part of applications to multiple participating colleges, depending on each college’s requirements. College-specific questions and writing supplements are separate. A short “Why this college?” response cannot be treated like a general life story, and a community prompt needs different evidence from an academic-interest prompt.

Build a writing tracker with the official prompt, word limit, required or optional status, deadline and draft version. Copying a prompt from a third-party website risks using an outdated version. Common App now publishes its 2026–2027 prompt set on the official essay page.

Topic choice

Select material with reflection, not drama

A topic does not need to be extraordinary. A small experience can work when it reveals choices, values and learning. List moments when you changed your mind, solved a problem, accepted responsibility, developed a skill or understood another perspective. Then ask what the reader learns that is not already visible elsewhere.

Avoid choosing an event only because it sounds impressive. If the essay depends on confidential details about another person, consider whether the story can be told responsibly. Do not exaggerate hardship, impact, leadership or awards.

Structure

Move from scene to meaning

Start close to a real moment or question, provide only the context the reader needs, and spend enough space on reflection. The application is evaluating the student, so the conclusion should show what the experience changed in the student’s thinking or action.

A practical first draft can use four parts: a specific opening, necessary context, the student’s decisions, and reflection connected to the present. This is a planning device, not a rigid formula. Remove general statements that could belong to thousands of applicants.

Revision

Revise in the right order

First check whether the draft answers the prompt. Next check evidence, logic and reflection. Then improve organisation and sentence clarity. Grammar and punctuation come after the core meaning works. Read the essay aloud to find unnatural phrases and sudden changes in voice.

Feedback should identify confusion and ask questions, not rewrite the student into a different person. Keep dated versions so accidental edits can be reversed. Before pasting into the application, check paragraph breaks, special characters and the live word counter.

AI and integrity

Keep authorship and facts under the student’s control

Different institutions may publish different policies on generative AI. The safe standard is that every fact, idea, sentence and final decision remains the applicant’s responsibility. Never use AI to invent a story, fabricate a role, imitate another person or produce a final essay the student cannot explain.

Limited tools may be useful for generating reflection questions, spotting repetition or testing readability when the college permits that use. Record what assistance was used if an institution requests disclosure. An authentic imperfect voice is stronger than generic polished language that does not match the interview or school record.

Application fit

Make testing and writing support the same profile

The essay does not replace academic preparation. A Nepali undergraduate applicant may also need SAT evidence and an accepted English-proficiency result. MKS Education provides SAT preparation through the MKS SAT web app and IELTS practice through the MKS IELTS web app, plus PTE, Duolingo and TOEFL-focused preparation.

Essay feedback at MKS focuses on prompt fit, structure, clarity and truthful evidence. The student remains the author. Read the Common App guide, undergraduate admission guide and recommendation letter guide.

Final check

Use a submission checklist

  • The official current prompt is copied correctly.
  • The response directly answers it within the live word limit.
  • Names, dates and achievements match the application.
  • The essay adds information rather than repeating the résumé.
  • The applicant can discuss every claim naturally.
  • College-specific references are current and belong to the correct institution.
  • Formatting is verified in the submission preview.

FAQ

USA college admission essay questions from Nepal

What should a US college admission essay show?

It should answer the prompt and reveal how the student thinks, reflects and contributes beyond grades and test scores. The best topic is one the student can explain specifically and authentically.

Are the Common App essay prompts confirmed for 2026–2027?

Common App publishes the current first-year prompts on its official essay page. Applicants should use that page and the live application rather than an old blog or copied prompt list.

Can I reuse one essay for every US college?

The Common App personal essay may be shared where a college accepts it, but college-specific supplements answer different prompts. Reuse only when the prompt and required context genuinely match.

Can AI write my college admission essay?

Applicants must follow each institution’s current policy. AI should never invent experiences or replace the applicant’s authorship. Limited use for reflection questions or clarity checks still requires truthful, student-owned final writing.

Should my essay repeat my transcript and activities list?

Usually no. The essay should add reflection, context or a side of the student that the rest of the application does not already communicate.

Does MKS Education provide essay support?

MKS Education provides ethical brainstorming, structure and revision feedback alongside SAT and English-test preparation, while the student remains the author of every submitted answer.
