Master’s Scholarships in UK for Nepali Students

Nepali students can compete for UK government scholarships, university-wide international awards, faculty funding and course-specific discounts for a master’s degree. The strongest plan combines an early admission application with a source-checked scholarship calendar and a realistic budget for costs the award does not cover.

Types of master’s funding

Government-funded scholarships

Chevening is the main current government-funded route in this list that explicitly includes Nepal. It targets emerging leaders, requires post-degree work experience and uses a long selection timeline. Government awards can include broader support than a university discount, but they also impose eligibility, return-home and course rules.

University-wide international awards

These may accept applicants across many departments. Glasgow Global Leadership focuses on academic excellence for eligible one-year taught master’s offer holders. UCL Global Master’s focuses on financial need. Bristol Think Big considers overseas applicants on eligible courses through a central international-scholarship process.

Faculty and course scholarships

Business, engineering, public health, law and other schools publish separate awards. They may have fewer eligible courses but less competition than a university-wide scheme. Search the exact faculty funding page and the course’s fees section.

Automatic tuition discounts

Some universities assess eligible offer holders automatically. Even then, the student may need to accept by a deadline, be self-funded or maintain a specified grade. Automatic does not mean unconditional or fully funded.

Eligibility points to check

Nationality and residence: confirm that Nepal appears on the current country list when the scheme is restricted.
Fee status: most international awards require overseas fee status.
Course: taught MSc or MA, MBA, MRes, online and part-time programmes may be treated differently.
Admission stage: note whether an application ID, conditional offer or unconditional offer is required.
Academic standard: universities interpret Nepalese grades using their own equivalency guidance.
Financial need: need-based schemes can request income, savings, loans and household evidence.
Work experience: leadership awards such as Chevening use a defined experience requirement.
Funding status: self-funded applicants may be eligible where employer- or government-sponsored students are not.

Application timeline

12–15 months before entry: shortlist courses and make a scholarship spreadsheet.
10–12 months before entry: prepare transcripts, references, English evidence, CV and course application.
8–10 months before entry: apply for admission; many funding portals require an applicant ID or offer.
6–9 months before entry: submit university scholarships while continuing government-award steps.
3–5 months before entry: compare results, deposits, conditions and uncovered costs.
After funding confirmation: obtain the CAS and prepare visa evidence for any remaining tuition and living requirement.

How to write a stronger application

Match the statement to the actual selection criterion. For merit, prove academic readiness through relevant results, research, projects or professional outcomes. For financial need, provide an honest and consistent picture of household resources. For leadership, show a decision you made, people you influenced and measurable impact.

Explain why the exact UK course fills a skill gap and how you will apply that learning. A generic paragraph about university ranking is weaker than a clear link between modules, methods, your previous work and a credible post-study plan in Nepal.

Calculate the real funding gap

Common mistakes

Waiting for an offer when the scholarship accepted applications before offer.
Using a 2025 or 2026 award page for a later entry year.
Assuming a partial fee waiver covers Student visa funds.
Applying to an ineligible MBA, online or research course.
Submitting the same generic statement to merit, need and leadership schemes.
Ignoring combination, deferral and renewal rules.
Believing an unofficial agent can guarantee government or university funding.
