IELTS for UK Study from Nepal 2026
Choose the test only after checking the university course requirement and the English-evidence route that will support the Student visa application.
Match the course offer with the correct UK English route
A Nepali applicant should treat university admission and visa evidence as connected checks rather than assuming that every UK application needs the same IELTS product.
Start with the course page and the offer conditions. Each university or college decides the English level it expects for a particular programme, and professional or language-intensive courses can set higher overall or component requirements than a general course. Record the exact test name, overall score, minimum score in each skill, result-validity rule and deadline. Do not plan from an agent poster or an old screenshot when the institution’s current admissions page and written offer provide the controlling course requirement.
Then check the official Student visa route. GOV.UK Student visa English guidance says applicants will usually need to prove English and lists several permitted routes, including qualifying UK education, a UK degree, an overseas degree taught in English that is assessed by Ecctis, or an approved test. The guidance states that degree-level or higher study must be equivalent to CEFR B2, while below-degree study must be equivalent to CEFR B1. These are visa language levels, not universal university IELTS admission bands.
Do not automatically book IELTS for UKVI. If a Secure English Language Test is required, use an approved provider and the exact test type accepted for the route. official IELTS for UKVI information explains that IELTS for UKVI is a Secure English Language Test and must be taken in person at an official UKVI test centre. However, GOV.UK also states that a higher education provider can assess English itself for degree-level study, provided the assessment is equivalent to CEFR B2. Therefore the university, offer, CAS process and visa evidence route must agree before payment.
Build a verification file before booking. Save the live course requirement, admissions email or offer, chosen test name, required overall and component scores, permitted test format, deadline and passport spelling. If the institution accepts ordinary IELTS Academic for admission but the visa evidence route requires a UKVI-approved test, ask the sponsor which result should be supplied and how it will appear in the CAS process. If an overseas English-taught degree may be used, check the current Ecctis assessment route rather than assuming a medium-of-instruction letter replaces every other requirement.
Prepare for the higher of the confirmed course and evidence requirements, but never treat a target as a guaranteed outcome. Use a diagnostic test to identify skill gaps, then practise official task types, timed sections and full tests. Recheck the course page and official Student visa guidance before submitting documents because rules, approved providers and institutional policies can change. A clean decision trail prevents the common mistake of achieving a useful score on the wrong test product or missing a component condition.
Start from evidence
Match the class plan to your current score profile, application requirement and realistic test date.
Review the feedback
Useful feedback explains the error, links it to an IELTS criterion and gives a concrete next practice step.
Prepare for delivery
Build language skill and the computer workflow together before a timed official test.
Use this checklist before paying or booking
Ask the centre for current written information. The table turns general marketing language into verifiable questions.
| Check | Why it matters | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Course requirement | University or college admissions page and offer | Overall score component floors and deadline |
| Visa language level | Current GOV.UK Student visa guidance | Degree-level B2 or below-degree B1 where applicable |
| Test product | Sponsor instructions and approved-test route | IELTS Academic or IELTS for UKVI as specifically required |

| Overseas degree | Current Ecctis route where relevant | Equivalence and English-medium confirmation |
| CAS alignment | Sponsor or admissions team | How English evidence is recorded for the application |
| Component scores | Exact course condition | Reading Writing Listening and Speaking minimums |
| Test format | Official test and visa instructions | In-person UKVI test when SELT evidence is required |

What makes the MKS IELTS learning system different
Classroom teaching, revision, independent practice and longer support work as one system instead of separate add-ons.
Three learning modes
Choose physical, online or hybrid learning and confirm the current timetable that fits your routine.
Recordings for every mode
Physical, online and hybrid students can revisit lessons and catch up on missed work.
iOS and Android access
Continue structured IELTS practice beyond the live class through the MKS digital system.
Physical books
Use organised print materials together with digital practice instead of scattered files.
Six-month access
The eight-week guided course connects to six-month learning access and continued support.
Multiple suitable classes
Students needing more repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge.
Keep every section inside the same improvement loop
Attempt, diagnose, correct, repeat and retest. Your overall goal should never hide a required section minimum.
A balanced weekly routine
- Review Listening distractors, spelling and paraphrase recognition rather than only counting correct answers.
- Track Reading accuracy by question type and add timed sections only after the method is stable.
- Use the official Writing criteria to revise task response, organisation, vocabulary and grammar.
- Record Speaking answers and review fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation without memorising scripts.
- Keep an error log and use the next mock to test whether the correction actually worked.
Before enrolment
- Confirm Academic or General Training and the required overall and section bands.
- Ask for the current timetable, fee, inclusions, teacher-feedback process and access period in writing.
- Test the commute, device, internet and study hours needed for the chosen class mode.
- Ask how the centre handles missed classes, weak skills and a test date later than the live course.
Before the official test
- Check the authorised test partner for current dates, locations, fees and delivery options.
- Use the same computer workflow and timing that you will face on test day.
- Book only after your reviewed practice evidence supports the planned date.
- Keep the application deadline and result-delivery time inside the booking decision.
Build an IELTS plan around your real starting level

Verify live IELTS information
What IELTS score is required for UK study from Nepal?
There is no single score for every UK course. The institution sets its admission scores and component conditions, while the Student visa route has separate English-evidence rules. Check both current sources.
Does every UK student need IELTS for UKVI?
No. The correct test depends on the institution and visa evidence route. A degree-level higher education provider may assess English itself, while some applicants need an approved SELT such as IELTS for UKVI.
What English level is linked to the UK Student visa?
Current GOV.UK guidance states an equivalent of CEFR B2 for degree-level or higher study and B1 for below-degree study, subject to the permitted evidence routes and exemptions.
Can a Nepal degree taught in English replace IELTS for the UK?
An overseas degree taught in English may be an evidence route, but GOV.UK says an Ecctis assessment is needed to confirm UK degree equivalence and English-medium study. Verify the current process.
How does MKS prepare IELTS students planning UK study?
MKS starts from verified course and visa requirements, then uses diagnostics, guided lessons, official task practice, recordings, app work and mock-test review without promising a score.
