UK University Deposit and Refund Guide for Nepali Students 2026

International tuition deposits are governed by the university’s written offer, payment policy and refund terms. Amounts, deadlines, non-refundable portions and visa-refusal exceptions vary widely.

Quick answer: Before paying, download the policy for your exact university, course and intake. Confirm the amount, official payment channel, CAS condition, refund grounds, evidence deadline, deductions and destination of the refund. Do not assume every visa refusal produces a full refund.

Why universities request deposits

A deposit may secure a place, form part of tuition and be required before CAS processing. Some institutions separate an initial place deposit from a larger pre-CAS tuition payment. The offer and finance portal should explain the structure.

Eight checks before payment

  1. Exact deposit and total pre-CAS payment required.
  2. Deadline and consequence of late payment.
  3. Whether any part is described as non-refundable.
  4. Cooling-off or cancellation terms that apply.
  5. Refund treatment for unmet offer conditions.
  6. Refund treatment for ATAS or visa refusal.
  7. Evidence and submission deadline for a claim.
  8. Administrative charge, exchange loss and refund destination.

Visa-refusal refunds are conditional

University policies commonly require the official refusal notice and can exclude refunds where deception, fraudulent documents, non-disclosure or failure to follow visa requirements contributed to the decision. The exact terms differ. Read the policy before submitting the visa application as well as before paying.

Pay safely from Nepal

  • Use the payment link or bank details inside the official university portal or website.
  • Verify unusual account-change requests with the university through a known contact.
  • Include the correct applicant or student reference.
  • Keep payment confirmation, SWIFT or transfer receipt and exchange details.
  • Do not send tuition to an individual’s personal account.

CAS and tuition paid

Ask when payments will appear on the CAS and whether later payments require an update. Verify the tuition paid figure on the draft or issued CAS before using it in the visa application.

Requesting a refund

  1. Use the university’s official form or portal.
  2. Select the correct reason and attach required evidence.
  3. Submit before the stated deadline.
  4. Keep the case number and confirmation.
  5. Expect payment to return to the original payer or source where policy and financial controls require it.

Compare policies, not anecdotes

Current official university examples show different deposit levels, CAS thresholds, deductions and refund grounds. One student’s result at another institution does not establish your entitlement.

Frequently asked questions

Is every CAS deposit refundable after refusal?

No. It depends on the written university policy, refusal reason, evidence and deadline.

Should I pay before meeting offer conditions?

Only if the official offer and deposit policy clearly permit it and you understand the risk.
