What to Pack for UK as a Nepali Student 2026

Pack for the first weeks, not for every possible situation. Prioritise irreplaceable documents, legal medicines, adaptable clothing and items that are expensive or difficult to replace immediately.

Quick answer: Keep travel and university records in hand luggage, pack layered clothing and essential electronics, verify medicine rules, and check UK food, goods and customs restrictions before closing the bag. Airline baggage allowance is separate from customs permission.

Hand-luggage essentials

Passport, eVisa access, tickets and UK address.
Offer, CAS, enrolment and accommodation records.
Payment receipts and emergency contacts.
Prescription medicine allowed for travel, in original packaging.
Phone, chargers, power bank within airline rules and UK plug adapter.
One change of clothes and basic toiletries within security limits.

Clothing for UK weather

Use layers: everyday tops, trousers, a warm mid-layer, waterproof outer layer and comfortable waterproof footwear. The weather varies by season and region. Buy specialised winter items after checking the local climate rather than filling luggage with bulky clothing that may not fit the need.

Study and electronics

A reliable laptop, charger, backup drive and headphones may be useful, but confirm the course’s software and hardware requirements. Check device voltage and plug compatibility. Keep serial numbers and receipts for valuable items, and insure them where appropriate.

Medicine and health items

Check whether the medicine is controlled in the UK and whether the airline or transit country has restrictions. Carry a prescription or doctor’s letter when required. Do not carry loose, unlabelled tablets or medicine for another person.

Food from Nepal

GOV.UK applies restrictions to meat, dairy, fish, animal products, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds brought from outside the UK. Some packaged foods are allowed, but rules depend on the item and whether arrival is in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Check every food category on the live government page.

Do not pack blindly

Prohibited weapons or self-defence sprays.
Controlled drugs or another person’s medicine.
Unverified meat, dairy, fresh plant or seed products.
Commercial quantities declared as personal luggage.
Cash or goods over limits without the required declaration.
Too many heavy household items that can be bought after arrival.

Checked-bag organisation

Use a list and photograph the contents without exposing sensitive documents. Label the bag with a reachable contact, not a public copy of the passport. Distribute essential clothing if travelling with more than one checked bag, and keep valuables out of checked luggage where airline rules permit.

Customs versus airline rules

An airline may accept an item in checked baggage while UK customs restricts it, or customs may allow an item that airport security does not permit in hand luggage. Check both systems and all transit-airport rules.
