Know which office controls each decision

Read the catalogue and degree audit together

List every required course, concentration, elective category, capstone, thesis or internship requirement and the term in which it is normally offered. Mark prerequisites and co-requisites. A course can be open for registration yet still not advance the intended degree, or it may count only as a free elective.

Graduate students may use a programme plan, handbook or adviser-approved study plan instead. Save the catalogue year and written approvals that apply to your cohort.

Clear blockers before the enrollment window

Check the portal well before registration. Common holds can relate to final transcripts, health or immunisation records, advising, unpaid balances or other institutional tasks. The office that placed the hold normally controls the resolution. Uploading a document does not mean it has already been reviewed.

Balance sequence, workload and evidence

Check course level, credits, section format, campus, meeting time, instructor, prerequisites, special fees, materials and assessment pattern. Build backup sections because popular classes can fill. Avoid a first-term schedule made only from difficult quantitative courses or only from convenient times if it breaks the degree sequence.

If a prerequisite from Nepal is not recognised automatically, prepare the transcript, syllabus or course description requested by the department. Ask for an override only through the published process and do not register for a course merely because the system temporarily allows it.

Ask the DSO before reducing or changing the course load

F-1 students must follow the full-course-of-study and online-course rules that apply to their education level and situation. Universities can define academic full time differently within federal and institutional frameworks. Never use another student’s credit total as your authority.

Check four consequences before clicking

1. Degree progress and prerequisite sequence.
2. Transcript or grade notation.
3. Tuition, fee and refund effect.
4. F-1 and SEVIS effect.

Deadlines and consequences can differ for dropping one course, withdrawing from all courses, a short-session class or a late petition. Contact the registrar, billing office, academic adviser and DSO as relevant before acting.
