UK Airport Arrival and Border Control Guide for Nepali Students 2026
Arrival is easier when the passport, eVisa and travel information match and the student can explain a genuine study plan. Border Force checks identity and permission; customs separately controls goods.
Quick answer: Before boarding, link the current passport to the UKVI account, check eVisa details and carry the passport. Keep the university, CAS, accommodation and funds information accessible. At arrival, answer questions truthfully and declare restricted or over-limit goods.
Before the flight
GOV.UK says travellers must not travel before visa approval. Current guidance also says all BRPs have expired and eVisas now replace physical status for most people. New successful applicants have received eVisas rather than visa vignettes since 1 July 2026. Check the live instruction that applies to your grant.
eVisa and passport match
Sign in to the UKVI account and confirm the name, date of birth, status dates and current passport. If a carrier cannot automatically verify status, current GOV.UK guidance describes use of a share code or valid physical evidence where applicable. Resolve access problems before reaching the airport.
Documents to keep accessible
- Current passport used for travel.
- UKVI decision and eVisa access.
- CAS statement and university offer.
- Course start, campus and latest-arrival information.
- Accommodation address and contact.
- Tuition, scholarship and funding summary.
- TB and ATAS evidence where applicable.
- Onward ticket or transport plan.
Possible border questions
An officer may ask why you came, what and where you will study, how long the course lasts, where you will live or how study is funded. Answer from your real application in clear language. Do not invent facts, recite a script or hide a previous immigration issue.
Border control and customs are different
After immigration control and baggage collection, follow customs channels. Declare goods over allowances, banned or restricted items, commercial goods and cash where required. GOV.UK rules differ between Great Britain and Northern Ireland for some goods and food.
If you face a problem
Stay calm, ask what information is needed and provide genuine records. Do not sign a document you do not understand without asking for explanation. Contact the university’s international or emergency-arrival number where appropriate. Legal problems may require a regulated immigration adviser.
Onward travel
Use official airport, rail, coach, taxi or university pickup information. Confirm terminal, stop, ticket validity and accommodation check-in time. Keep a backup route and enough accessible funds. Do not accept an unsolicited ride from someone who only knows your name from a public post.
First actions after arrival
- Tell family or the agreed contact you arrived safely.
- Reach verified accommodation and complete the inventory.
- Finish university enrolment and attendance checks.
- Register with a GP and arrange a UK phone connection.
- Open a bank account through an official provider if needed.
- Review eVisa conditions before work or travel.
