GMAT Score Validity and Sending Scores
Use the five-year validity rule, current programme deadlines and the 48-hour free-report window to send the right official score to the right programme.
A valid score still needs to reach the correct programme within its application process
Students should separate GMAC’s validity period from each school’s deadline, age preference and document-matching workflow.
Use the official validity rule as the outer boundary. GMAC states that current GMAT scores are valid for five years from the test date. A score can be valid yet too old for a particular programme’s preference or too late for an application round, so check each target programme directly. Record the test date, five-year expiry date, application deadline and any school-specific score-age language in one table.
Wait for the score to become reportable. GMAC says Official Scores are typically available in the mba.com account within 3–5 days after the appointment, but some cases may take up to 20 days. The candidate receives an email when the score is ready. Build this possible delay into application planning rather than scheduling the exam immediately before a deadline.
Use the free sending window carefully. Current official support says candidates can send an Official Score to up to five programmes at no cost within 48 hours of the score becoming available. In the account, locate the appointment, choose View and Send Score, search for the school or programme, confirm the selection and submit. Select the exact programme rather than assuming one school-level choice covers every degree or campus.
Understand what happens afterward. Once the 48-hour window expires or all five free reports are used, the candidate can purchase Additional Score Reports under the current fee rules. GMAC states that schools typically receive submitted scores within hours, but the institution may need additional time to match them to the application. Save the transaction and follow the programme’s applicant-portal instructions.
Send deliberately because the action cannot simply be undone. The Official Score Report page states that once a score is sent, GMAC cannot reverse the action or disable the programme’s access. Review the edition, test date, score, programme name and recipient before confirmation. Do not let an agent choose recipients without the candidate reviewing the final list in the official account.
MKS Education can help students map scores to programme research and deadlines while the candidate controls the mba.com account. MKS offers physical, online and hybrid preparation, recordings in every mode, iOS and Android practice, physical books, an eight-week guided course, six-month access and continued support. Suitable repeat classes may be available without another class charge subject to schedules and seats. Sending a score cannot guarantee admission, scholarship or funding.
