Start each recording session with one question: what should change after this review? The target might be translating rate problems, comparing quantities, identifying sentence contrast, mapping a passage or developing an Issue paragraph. Locate the relevant segment rather than replaying the full class by default. A short focused review followed by independent work protects time and makes the benefit measurable.

Use active recall while watching. Pause before the teacher reveals the next step, state the rule or solve the example, then compare. Write a brief method in your own words and identify when it applies. For Verbal, predict the sentence or passage relationship before the answer explanation. For Quant, rebuild the model before copying calculations. For Writing, outline the position and development before reviewing a sample response.

Complete fresh practice immediately. A familiar worked example cannot prove transfer because the student may remember the path. Use a new question with the same underlying skill, then a mixed question where the method must be recognised independently. Record accuracy, time and confidence. If the student cannot explain why the correct method applies, return to the exact segment or ask the teacher rather than replaying passively.

Combine recordings with current official resources. ETS provides test overviews, strategies, sample questions, Math Review, official books and POWERPREP simulations. The recording should teach and clarify, while official materials anchor question types, directions, tools and timed experience. Protect official full tests for planned checkpoints so repeated viewing or answer familiarity does not weaken the diagnostic value.

Check the access terms before enrolment. Ask whether recordings are available to physical, online and hybrid students, how quickly sessions appear, whether audio and screen content are clear, how long access remains, which devices work and what happens when a class cannot be recorded. Confirm privacy and sharing rules. Recordings should not replace live attendance when interaction, feedback or supervised practice is required.
