Common App collects testing information but each university controls its requirement

The platform simplifies entry; it does not make testing policy identical across colleges or replace institution-specific supplements and document instructions.

Create the Common App account using the student’s legal name as it appears on official school and test records. The first-year guide advises students to gather transcripts, test scores and dates, activities and family information before completing the application. Consistent identity details help a university match self-reported entries, school forms and any later official score report.

Add the intended colleges and review requirements before entering a score strategy. Common App’s Testing guide says each college chooses its own policy, with descriptions such as always required, sometimes required, never required or flexible. The downloadable Requirements Grid also warns that its minimum policy may apply to traditional US applicants and that non-US citizens can face different instructions. Always open the university website.

In the Testing section, enter only tests the student actually took and the exact dates and scores shown on the official report. Common App can collect SAT, ACT, subject examinations and English-proficiency results such as IELTS, PTE, Duolingo and TOEFL. The SAT does not automatically satisfy an English-language requirement. Verify which language tests and exemptions each university accepts for Nepal applicants.

Understand self-reporting. Entering an SAT score in Common App is not the same as sending an official College Board score report. Some universities accept self-reported scores for initial review and verify them later; others require an official report by a stated deadline. Follow the recipient’s reporting method, Score Choice or all-score rule and superscore instructions. Keep the application entry consistent with every ordered report.

Use the dashboard and My Colleges checklists for deadlines, recommendations, supplements and missing tasks. Common App permits up to 20 colleges, but a larger list is not automatically better. Research academic fit, finances, SAT policy, English requirements and scholarship priorities before submission. Once an application is submitted, changes can be limited, so preview the complete PDF and recheck test dates and scores.

MKS Education supports SAT planning through physical, online and hybrid classes, recordings across every mode, iOS and Android practice, physical books, an eight-week guided course, six-month access and continued support. Students needing more repetition may join multiple suitable classes without another class charge, subject to schedule and seats. MKS can explain score-policy research but cannot submit an application for the student or guarantee admission scholarship or visa outcomes.

Diagnose first

Use a timed Bluebook practice result and a domain-level error log instead of choosing a plan from a guessed score.

Match the goal

Connect the test date, score decision and preparation schedule to the real university and scholarship timeline.

Verify claims

Use College Board and official university pages for changing rules, dates, fees, formats and score-use policies.

Evidence table

Turn the decision into checks you can verify

Save the source URL and the date you checked it. A clear table is more reliable than memory or a verbal promise.

Follow organised print material alongside app practice, teacher guidance and official digital resources.

Eight weeks plus six months

Eight weeks of guided teaching connects to six-month learning access and continued support.

Multiple suitable classes

Students needing more repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge, subject to the current schedule and seats.

Practical next steps

  • Gather official SAT and English-test reports plus dates before data entry.
  • Add target colleges and verify international testing policies on official websites.
  • Enter self-reported scores exactly and note which colleges need official reports.
  • Preview the application PDF and complete every My Colleges checklist before submission.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Do not assume one Common App testing answer creates the same result at every college.
  • Do not confuse an SAT score with English-language proficiency evidence.
  • Do not round alter or combine scores outside the application instructions.
  • Do not share Common App or College Board passwords with an unofficial intermediary.
Current test context

Prepare for the digital SAT that students actually take

College Board states that the SAT contains a 64-minute Reading and Writing section and a 70-minute Math section. Each has two adaptive modules, with a 10-minute break between the sections.

Reading and Writing

  • 54 questions across two 32-minute modules.
  • Build information and ideas, craft and structure, expression of ideas and standard English conventions.
  • Review why the correct answer is supported and why each close alternative fails.
  • Track both accuracy and time by domain before relying on full-test averages.

Math

  • 44 questions across two 35-minute modules.
  • Build Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry.
  • Choose deliberately between mental work, algebra and the built-in graphing calculator.
  • Review conceptual, translation, calculator and careless-error patterns separately.
