Band 6 to 7 improvement plan

IELTS Band 6 to 7 Study Plan for Nepali Students

Moving from 6 to 7 usually requires fewer repeated errors, clearer development and better control under time—not simply more full tests.

Turn a one-band gap into small corrections

Use an eight-week diagnose correct repeat and retest cycle

The difference between 6 and 7 is not one trick. It is a pattern of stronger control across the tasks that matter to the required score profile.

Week one should establish evidence. Recreate the test conditions, record the four section results and compare them with the official requirement. A student with 7 in Listening and Reading but 6 in Writing needs a different plan from a student who is near 6 in all four skills. If you have a previous TRF, use it as a starting signal, not a complete explanation of every error.

Weeks two and three should isolate error causes. In Listening and Reading, separate vocabulary or paraphrase gaps from question-method errors, spelling, attention and time pressure. Use short sets until the method is accurate, then reintroduce timing. The official raw-score tables are averages, so judge progress over several comparable tests instead of reacting to one unusually easy or difficult set.

Weeks three to five should prioritise examiner-assessed skills. Compare Writing with the official Writing band descriptors. Turn feedback into one action such as a clearer Task 1 overview, fully developed Task 2 position, more controlled referencing, more precise vocabulary or a recurring grammar repair. For Speaking, review fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation through recordings and new prompts.

Weeks six and seven should test transfer. A corrected essay is useful, but the real evidence is a different task completed without notes that shows the same weakness is less frequent. A rehearsed Speaking answer is not enough; use unfamiliar questions. Add timed sections only after the underlying method is stable, then review why correct answers were correct as well as why errors occurred.

Week eight is for the booking decision and contingency. Complete realistic computer mocks, compare the score pattern with both overall and section requirements and leave time before the application deadline. If the evidence is inconsistent, extend the practice cycle rather than relying on luck. If a result later misses one section, compare EOR, eligible One Skill Retake and a full retake using official acceptance and timing rules.

Start from evidence

Match the class plan to your current score profile, application requirement and realistic test date.

Review the feedback

Useful feedback explains the error, links it to an IELTS criterion and gives a concrete next practice step.

Prepare for delivery

Build language skill and the computer workflow together before a timed official test.

Practical comparison

Use this checklist before paying or booking

Ask the centre for current written information. The table turns general marketing language into verifiable questions.

CheckWhy it mattersWhat to verify
Week 1Full diagnostic and requirement check.Four scores error samples and deadline.
Week 2Listening and Reading method repair.Accuracy before speed and an error log.
Week 3Writing criterion diagnosis. One priority from each reviewed response.
Week 4Speaking recording and feedback.Fluency range control and pronunciation.
Week 5Targeted rewrite and new prompts.Apply feedback without memorising.
Week 6Timed sections and mixed practice.Stable method under realistic limits.
Week 7Full computer mock and review.Section pattern and recurring errors.
Week 8Retest evidence and booking decision.Repeated performance and deadline buffer.
Daily routineShort focused work is easier to review. One input task one output task and correction.
Weekly decisionProgress needs evidence rather than feeling.Keep change adjust focus or extend the plan.

What makes the MKS IELTS learning system different

Classroom teaching, revision, independent practice and longer support work as one system instead of separate add-ons.

Three learning modes

Choose physical, online or hybrid learning and confirm the current timetable that fits your routine.

Recordings for every mode

Physical, online and hybrid students can revisit lessons and catch up on missed work.

iOS and Android access

Continue structured IELTS practice beyond the live class through the MKS digital system.

Physical books

Use organised print materials together with digital practice instead of scattered files.

Six-month access

The eight-week guided course connects to six-month learning access and continued support.

Multiple suitable classes

Students needing more repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge.

Four-skill system

Keep every section inside the same improvement loop

Attempt, diagnose, correct, repeat and retest. Your overall goal should never hide a required section minimum.

Each skill needs practice, correction and evidence that the same error is less likely to return.

A balanced weekly routine

  • Review Listening distractors, spelling and paraphrase recognition rather than only counting correct answers.
  • Track Reading accuracy by question type and add timed sections only after the method is stable.
  • Use the official Writing criteria to revise task response, organisation, vocabulary and grammar.
  • Record Speaking answers and review fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation without memorising scripts.
  • Keep an error log and use the next mock to test whether the correction actually worked.

Before enrolment

  • Confirm Academic or General Training and the required overall and section bands.
  • Ask for the current timetable, fee, inclusions, teacher-feedback process and access period in writing.
  • Test the commute, device, internet and study hours needed for the chosen class mode.
  • Ask how the centre handles missed classes, weak skills and a test date later than the live course.

Before the official test

  • Check the authorised test partner for current dates, locations, fees and delivery options.
  • Use the same computer workflow and timing that you will face on test day.
  • Book only after your reviewed practice evidence supports the planned date.
  • Keep the application deadline and result-delivery time inside the booking decision.

How long does it take to improve IELTS from Band 6 to 7?

There is no universal duration. It depends on the section gap, English foundation, practice quality, feedback use and consistency. Begin with a diagnostic and review evidence weekly.

Should I take full IELTS mocks every day?

No. Full mocks measure performance but leave limited time for correction. Use targeted work, feedback and later timed retesting, with full mocks at planned checkpoints.

Which IELTS skill is hardest to improve from 6 to 7?

It varies by student. Writing and Speaking need criterion-based feedback, while Listening and Reading need question-level accuracy and timing analysis.

What should an IELTS error log contain?

Record the task, your answer, the correct or stronger response, the cause of the error, the correction action and evidence from a later retest.

Can weak students repeat classes at MKS?

Students needing more repetition may join multiple suitable MKS classes without another class charge. Confirm placement, schedule and seat availability.
