Purpose before preparation

The correct IELTS type is the one your application route explicitly accepts

Academic and General Training report the same nine-band scale, but their Reading and Writing content reflects different purposes.

Official IELTS guidance describes Academic as appropriate for higher education and professional registration. General Training is designed for migration, workplace or everyday contexts and training or study below degree level. These are general purposes, not permission to guess. Check the course page, regulator or visa guidance and ask for written clarification when wording is unclear.

Listening and Speaking are the same across Academic and General Training. Students still need to understand multiple accents, follow detail and meaning, and communicate directly with an examiner. A change of test type does not remove the need for broad vocabulary, grammar control, fluency and accurate listening.

Reading differs in source and context. Academic uses texts suited to higher-education readiness, while General Training includes materials closer to everyday, workplace and general-interest use. Both require locating evidence, recognising paraphrase and managing time, but preparation should use the correct official sample type.

Writing Task 1 is the largest visible difference. Academic asks candidates to describe visual information such as a graph, table, chart or diagram. General Training asks for a letter responding to a situation. Both include Task 2, but students should practise the wording, tone and evidence appropriate to their selected test.

Do not choose General Training because someone calls it easier. Score requirements and answer conversions can differ, and a result from the wrong product may not be accepted. MKS Education should confirm the student’s destination and application purpose before building the Writing, Reading and mock sequence.

Start from evidence

Match the class plan to your current score profile, application requirement and realistic test date.

Review the feedback

Useful feedback explains the error, links it to an IELTS criterion and gives a concrete next practice step.

Prepare for delivery

Build language skill and the computer workflow together before a timed official test.

MKS Education: MKS Education first maps the student’s study, work or migration route to the correct IELTS product, then provides physical, online or hybrid teaching with recordings, books and iOS or Android practice. The eight-week guided course includes six-month access and continued support, and learners needing more repetition may join multiple suitable classes without another class charge. The receiving organisation—not MKS—decides which test and score it accepts.
Connected support

What makes the MKS IELTS learning system different

Classroom teaching, revision, independent practice and longer support work as one system instead of separate add-ons.

Three learning modes

Choose physical, online or hybrid learning and confirm the current timetable that fits your routine.

Recordings for every mode

Physical, online and hybrid students can revisit lessons and catch up on missed work.

iOS and Android access

Continue structured IELTS practice beyond the live class through the MKS digital system.

Physical books

Use organised print materials together with digital practice instead of scattered files.

Six-month access

The eight-week guided course connects to six-month learning access and continued support.

Multiple suitable classes

Students needing more repetition may join suitable classes without another class charge.

Four-skill system

Keep every section inside the same improvement loop

Attempt, diagnose, correct, repeat and retest. Your overall goal should never hide a required section minimum.

Each skill needs practice, correction and evidence that the same error is less likely to return.

A balanced weekly routine

  • Review Listening distractors, spelling and paraphrase recognition rather than only counting correct answers.
  • Track Reading accuracy by question type and add timed sections only after the method is stable.
  • Use the official Writing criteria to revise task response, organisation, vocabulary and grammar.
  • Record Speaking answers and review fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation without memorising scripts.
  • Keep an error log and use the next mock to test whether the correction actually worked.

Before enrolment

  • Confirm Academic or General Training and the required overall and section bands.
  • Ask for the current timetable, fee, inclusions, teacher-feedback process and access period in writing.
  • Test the commute, device, internet and study hours needed for the chosen class mode.
  • Ask how the centre handles missed classes, weak skills and a test date later than the live course.

Before the official test

  • Check the authorised test partner for current dates, locations, fees and delivery options.
  • Use the same computer workflow and timing that you will face on test day.
  • Book only after your reviewed practice evidence supports the planned date.
  • Keep the application deadline and result-delivery time inside the booking decision.

Which IELTS should a Nepali student take for university?

Undergraduate and postgraduate applicants generally need IELTS Academic, but the university and visa route are the final authorities. Verify the exact requirement before booking.

Is IELTS General Training easier than Academic?

It is different, not universally easier. Listening and Speaking are the same, while Reading and Writing reflect different contexts. Take the product the receiving organisation accepts.

What is different in IELTS Academic and General Training?

Listening and Speaking are the same. Reading materials differ, and Writing Task 1 is a visual-information report in Academic versus a letter in General Training.

Can I use General Training for a bachelor or masters application?

Usually higher education asks for Academic, but only the institution can confirm acceptance. Do not book General Training for degree study without written approval.

Does MKS teach both IELTS Academic and General Training?

MKS preparation can be aligned to the required test type. Confirm your application purpose before enrolment so Reading, Writing and mock practice use the correct format.
