Complete the process in the correct order
EducationUSA recommends starting early, planning ahead and tracking deadlines. A well-managed application is built from verified programme requirements rather than copied from another student’s checklist.
| Stage | Main task | Evidence to save |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Profile and goals | Define level, subject, career direction, budget and target intake | Profile summary and realistic priorities |
| 2. University research | Check curriculum, eligibility, accreditation, SEVP certification, cost and support | Official programme links and comparison sheet |
| 3. Tests and documents | Prepare applicable SAT, GRE, GMAT and English tests; collect records | Score reports, transcripts, recommendations and essays |
| 4. Application | Complete the correct portal, upload evidence and pay only official fees | Submitted application, receipts and correspondence |
| 5. Decision and I-20 | Compare admission, funding, total cost and conditions | Offer, funding terms and Form I-20 records |
Build a balanced university shortlist
Rankings alone do not establish academic fit, affordability or visa eligibility. Review the exact curriculum, entry prerequisites, faculty, facilities, location, international student services, graduation outcomes and full cost. Check accreditation through official US resources and confirm that the school is SEVP-certified if it will issue Form I-20 for an F-1 student.
- Use the university’s own international admissions and department pages.
- Confirm whether the application is institutional, Common App or another authorised platform.
- Separate admission deadlines from scholarship, assistantship and priority deadlines.
- Record whether documents must be uploaded, emailed or sent directly by the issuing institution.
- Save a dated copy of the requirement page and confirm any unclear point in writing.

Prepare only the tests your target programme uses
A test-optional label does not automatically describe every programme, scholarship or international applicant condition. Read the current policy for the selected intake and decide early enough to prepare and send an official score when required.
| Applicant | Test to check | MKS preparation support |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | SAT or ACT according to admission and scholarship policy | MKS SAT web app plus guided SAT classes in Kathmandu |

| MBA and business graduate | GMAT or GRE according to the business school’s policy | MKS GMAT web app plus MKS GMAT preparation |
| All study levels | IELTS, PTE Academic, Duolingo English Test or TOEFL where accepted | MKS IELTS web app and MKS classes for IELTS, PTE, Duolingo and TOEFL |
Build the right score plan before submitting applications
MKS Education provides focused SAT preparation for undergraduate applicants, GRE preparation for relevant master’s and doctoral routes, GMAT or GRE preparation for MBA and business programmes, and IELTS, PTE, Duolingo English Test and TOEFL preparation for English proficiency. The GRE, GMAT, SAT and IELTS web apps support practice between classes.
Join an MKS preparation class after a profile and requirement review so the test, target score and timing match the universities you actually plan to apply to.
Prepare a complete first-year application
EducationUSA notes that undergraduate requirements vary greatly. Common elements can include secondary-school credentials, transcripts, English translations, test scores, recommendation letters and an essay or personal statement. Some institutions use the Common App while others use their own system.
- Enter your name, date of birth and academic history exactly and consistently.
- Report Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 records as the portal instructs.
- Arrange certified transcripts and English translations in the required format.
- Invite recommenders early and choose people who know your academic work.
- Write personal essays in your own voice and answer the university’s actual prompt.
- Check whether an SAT score is required, optional, recommended or considered for scholarships.
Match the department’s academic and research expectations
Graduate requirements often sit on both the central graduate-school page and the department page. Master’s, MBA, PhD and professional doctorate applicants should compare both sources before preparing evidence.
- Check degree prerequisites, minimum academic preparation and required modules.
- Review whether the GRE, GMAT or another test is required, optional or not accepted.
- Prepare a focused statement of purpose connected to the programme, not a generic life story.
- For research degrees, review faculty fit, research areas, writing samples and proposal instructions.
- Use a clear CV or résumé with one consistent education and employment chronology.
- Verify assistantship and funding deadlines separately from admission deadlines.
Keep every record genuine and consistent
Never alter marks, formatting, dates or institutional records. Differences between an application, transcript, passport, CV and later visa forms can trigger questions or delays.
| Document | Check before submission | Frequent mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Legal name, date of birth and validity | Different spelling across forms |
| Transcripts | Official or certified format and translation rules | Uploading an unofficial copy when direct delivery is required |
| Test scores | Correct test, validity, recipient and official-score policy | Sending a score the programme does not use |
| Recommendations | Correct number, recommender type and deadline | Inviting a weak or inappropriate recommender late |
| Essay or SOP | Prompt, word limit, programme fit and truthful authorship | Submitting generic or copied content |
Prepare admission and funding evidence together
EducationUSA advises students to evaluate finance early, and financial-aid applications may accompany admission applications. Calculate tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, health insurance, books, transport, travel and contingency. Scholarships and assistantships are competitive, so record what is confirmed and what remains conditional.
- Review whether a separate scholarship form, essay or early deadline applies.
- Check whether international applicants qualify for the advertised award.
- Read renewal conditions, required GPA and covered costs.
- Keep sponsor, bank, loan and income evidence genuine and traceable.
- Do not assume part-time work will fund tuition or the complete living budget.
Audit the application before clicking submit
- Confirm the correct campus, programme, degree and intake.
- Compare every field with the passport and academic record.
- Check that all uploads are readable, complete and correctly oriented.
- Confirm recommendations and official score reports are progressing.
- Review the essay or SOP against the exact prompt and word limit.
- Pay only through the authorised university or application platform.
- Download the submission confirmation and store every receipt and email.
Respond carefully to decisions and Form I-20 steps
Monitor the official applicant portal and email, respond to genuine requests, and do not send duplicate documents unless instructed. If admitted, compare academic fit, conditions, scholarship terms and total cost before accepting. SEVP-certified schools issue Form I-20 to eligible admitted students; review all personal, programme and financial information on the form before using it in the student-visa process.
Admission does not guarantee a visa, and no consultancy or test-preparation centre can guarantee an admission, scholarship or F-1 visa decision.

USA university application FAQs for Nepali students
When should a Nepali student start a US university application?
Begin research and test planning about 12 to 18 months before the intended intake when possible. Exact application and scholarship deadlines vary, so create a calendar from each official university page.
Is the SAT compulsory for undergraduate admission in the USA?
No single rule applies. A university may require, recommend or make SAT or ACT scores optional, and scholarship policies can differ from general admission. Check the current policy for each programme and intake.
Do master’s and PhD applicants need the GRE?
GRE policy is programme-specific. Some departments require or recommend it, while others make it optional or do not accept it. Use the department’s current instructions rather than a general university assumption.
Should an MBA applicant take the GMAT or GRE?
Many business schools accept GMAT or GRE scores, but requirements and preferences vary. Confirm the current MBA or business programme policy before choosing a test.
Which English test can Nepali students use?
US institutions may accept one or more of IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or the Duolingo English Test. Accepted tests, minimum scores and waiver rules vary by programme and applicant profile.
Can MKS Education guarantee US admission or a visa?
No. MKS Education provides test preparation, application guidance and profile review. Universities, scholarship providers and US government authorities make their own decisions.
