GMAT Critical Reasoning Preparation Course

Begin with the current official scope. Verbal Reasoning contains 23 questions in 45 minutes and includes Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning, not Sentence Correction. mba.com says Critical Reasoning assesses the ability to make arguments, evaluate arguments and formulate or evaluate a plan of action. The short text commonly presents facts and a claimed conclusion, followed by one precise task. A preparation course should therefore focus on logical relationships and evidence rather than debate whether the real-world topic is true.

Diagnose errors by task and cause. Separate strengthen, weaken, assumption, inference, evaluate, explain, flaw and plan-of-action questions instead of using one overall accuracy number. For each item, record whether the student misread the task, confused evidence with conclusion, missed a qualifier, supplied outside information, predicted the wrong effect, accepted an irrelevant choice or ran out of time. Also review changed, guessed and slow correct answers. These observations show whether the next lesson should address argument structure, choice analysis or pacing.

Build a compact argument map. Identify the conclusion, the evidence offered for it and the gap that must be bridged. Note background information separately because not every sentence supports the claim. For a plan, define the objective, proposed action and assumptions about implementation or effect. Official strategy recommends distinguishing stated facts, what necessarily follows, what is claimed to follow and how well the claim is supported. The map should remain short enough to guide a decision rather than become a rewritten passage.

Match the method to the question. A strengthen answer improves the link between evidence and conclusion; a weaken answer damages it. A required assumption must be necessary, which can be tested by considering whether its negation breaks the reasoning. An inference must follow from the supplied facts without adding a new premise. An evaluate answer identifies information whose different possible results would change confidence in the conclusion. An explain answer resolves an apparent conflict, while a flaw answer accurately describes the reasoning defect.

Predict before reading choices whenever the task permits. Then test each option for direction, relevance, scope and logical force. A choice can be factually plausible yet do nothing to the argument. Strong wording is not automatically wrong, but it must be supported by the required relationship. Review why four choices fail and how the correct one performs the task. Move from small explained sets to mixed CR and Reading Comprehension practice, then use section checkpoints and official full simulations across Quant, Verbal and Data Insights.
