A strong Verbal course teaches candidates to separate what the passage states from what an answer choice merely suggests

Non-native English speakers often improve by making reasoning visible instead of reading faster without a purpose.

Check course alignment first. The current Verbal Reasoning section has 23 questions and 45 minutes, with two question families: Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. Sentence Correction is not part of the current exam. Official guidance says the section measures reading comprehension and the ability to reason and evaluate arguments. An outdated grammar-heavy syllabus can consume time without matching the present test.

Diagnose the source of each Verbal error. For Reading Comprehension, separate passage purpose, paragraph role, detail location, inference, application, tone and scope. For Critical Reasoning, identify conclusion, evidence, assumption, gap and question task before evaluating choices. Also record reading time, rereading, confidence, changed answers and whether the error came from the passage, the question stem or an attractive but unsupported option.

Teach Reading Comprehension through structure and evidence. Read carefully enough to understand the passage’s purpose and development; outside familiarity with the subject is not required. Track the main claim, paragraph function, contrast and author position. For each question, return to the relevant evidence and demand an answer within the passage’s scope. Extreme wording, reversed relationships and plausible external facts should be rejected when the text does not support them.

Teach Critical Reasoning through the exact task. Official mba.com guidance recommends determining what the question asks and distinguishing stated facts, necessary implications, claimed conclusions and how well the claims are supported. Build a short argument map, predict the needed effect and then test every answer choice. A strengthening choice must improve the reasoning; a weakening choice must damage it; an assumption must be required, not merely helpful.

Add timing after the method becomes visible. Start with small official-format sets and written explanations, then mix Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning under section checkpoints. Review slow correct and changed answers as well as wrong ones. Practise Question Review and Edit within official limits, but do not plan to revisit too many questions. Full simulations should keep Quant and Data Insights active because all three sections contribute to the Total Score.
