A programme can combine all three. Check the degree plan rather than treating the label as a guaranteed specialisation.

Look for management depth and applied evidence

Hospitality degrees can differ sharply: one may emphasise hotel operations, another food service, revenue management, analytics or real estate. Tourism programmes may be business-oriented or policy- and sustainability-oriented. Event programmes should show more than promotional language; look for budgeting, contracts, operations, technology, risk, legal context and a substantial project.

Inspect internship rules carefully. International students must follow F-1 authorisation requirements, and an advertised internship is not automatically available or authorised. Ask how placements are sourced, whether participation is curricular, how many students secure them and what alternatives exist.

Turn experience into measurable evidence

Nepali applicants from BHM, travel and tourism, BBA, BBS or related backgrounds should map coursework in accounting, economics, marketing, statistics, operations, food service, accommodation, customer experience and research. Applicants changing fields need a clear bridge between prior education, real responsibilities and the new programme.

Describe work experience with evidence: occupancy or revenue analysis, guest-service improvement, event budgets, vendor coordination, service recovery, team supervision or a research project. Do not inflate a title. A credible example with scale, decision and result is stronger than generic leadership claims.

GMAT, GRE and English-language test policies vary by programme. Some management-focused degrees may consider a graduate admission test; others do not. Verify current accepted tests, minimums, waiver conditions and score validity on the programme’s official pages.

Verify the exact programme, not the sector

NCES distinguishes Hospitality Administration/Management (CIP 52.0901), Tourism and Travel Services Management (52.0903) and Meeting and Event Planning (52.0907). A university may assign another code to a programme with a similar marketing title, so use the code reported by that institution.

For STEM practical-training analysis, check the exact CIP code shown on the Form I-20 against the current DHS list. Never assume that analytics coursework makes the whole degree STEM-designated.

Build a role-specific plan for Nepal and beyond

A strong application avoids claiming that any US hospitality degree guarantees management employment. Instead, identify a target function—revenue, operations, destination planning, service analytics or event production—and the skills required. Connect the programme’s courses and projects to that gap.

For a Nepal-facing narrative, applicants may discuss hotel operations, destination development, travel services, sustainable tourism or professional events. Keep the plan realistic: explain the responsibility you aim to earn, the evidence you already have and how the degree changes your capability.
