Inspect required courses and the faculty labs rather than relying on the word “robotics.”

Build a prerequisite matrix for calculus, linear algebra, probability, programming, data structures, dynamics, controls, sensors and electronics. NCES lists Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation Engineering as distinct instructional classifications. A university can still assign a robotics programme another appropriate CIP code depending on its curriculum.
