A vocabulary answer must fit the local meaning and tone, not just a memorised dictionary definition. For graphs or tables, identify the variables and direction before connecting them to the passage. Review close wrong answers because they reveal the reasoning trap.
For grammar and punctuation, teach sentence structure rather than isolated slogans. Identify independent clauses, dependent material, modifiers, verbs and agreement before selecting punctuation. Keep a rule-and-example notebook, but pair every rule with official-style decisions. A student who can name a comma rule but cannot see the sentence boundary still needs guided analysis.
