USA Credential Evaluation Guide for Nepali Students 2026–2027
Submit Nepali transcripts and qualifications through the exact university process without buying an unaccepted report or inventing a GPA conversion.
Ask the U.S. university whether it evaluates Nepali credentials internally or requires a specific external service and report type. Order only what the receiving institution accepts. The U.S. Department of Education does not evaluate credentials or endorse one provider.
Recipient decides: A private evaluation does not force a university, employer or licensing board to accept a qualification.
Study work and licensure are different
The Department of Education explains that the competent authority depends on the purpose. A university decides recognition for further study, an employer for employment and a state licensing board for a regulated profession. Do not reuse an admission evaluation for licensing without checking.
| Purpose | Decision maker | First contact |
|---|---|---|
| University admission | Receiving education institution | International admissions office |
| Transfer credit | Receiving university and department | Transfer credit evaluator or registrar |
| Employment | Prospective employer | Human resources |
| Professional licence | State licensing board | Board for the intended state and profession |
| Visa or immigration purpose | Relevant federal authority | Official process or qualified legal advice |
Questions for the admissions office
- Do you evaluate Nepali records internally?
- If external evaluation is required, which services are accepted?
- Which report type and delivery channel are required?
- Are official transcripts sent by the institution or service?
- Are certified English translations needed?
- What deadline and reference number apply?
- Will the report be used for admission, transfer credit or both?

A credential evidence checklist
| Record | Check | Common problem |
|---|---|---|
| Transcript or marksheets | Complete years, subjects and grades | Missing back page or grading scale |
| Certificate or degree | Award title, institution and date | Provisional record used as final without permission |
| Translation | Required certification and attachment to original | Translation submitted without source document |
| Course syllabus | Content, hours and assessment for transfer | Only course title provided |
| Institution delivery | Correct email, sealed or electronic channel | Student upload used when direct delivery required |
Use the USA documents checklist to coordinate the full application.
Comparability is not admission
A document-level report may identify the credential and an approximate U.S. comparison. A course-level report may list subjects, credits and grades. Terminology varies among providers. The university may still recalculate GPA, assess prerequisites and decide whether any transfer credit applies.
The Department of Education notes that evaluations are performed case by case and different services can reach different results. Use the service selected by the recipient rather than shopping for a preferred outcome.
Do not self-convert Nepal marks
Random online percentage converters ignore institution, programme, grading scale and course context. Submit the original grading information. If the application asks for a self-reported GPA, follow its stated method. Review the USA GPA guide.
Track the evaluation like an application item
- Confirm the accepted provider and report.
- Collect official records and translations.
- Use the correct university recipient and applicant ID.
- Order early enough for verification delays.
- Monitor missing-document requests.
- Confirm delivery in the university portal.
- Keep the final report and receipt.
Do not send original irreplaceable documents unless the official instruction requires them and explains return.

Prevent avoidable document delays
Universities and evaluators may request records directly from the issuing school, sealed or electronically verified transcripts, certified translations or additional course details. Start early enough for Nepal institutions to respond through official channels. Do not alter marks, dates, names, seals or formatting, even to make a scan look cleaner.
Use one consistent English spelling of the applicant’s name and explain legitimate differences with supporting identification. Keep receipts, tracking numbers and reference IDs. If a report is delayed, contact the university before buying a different evaluation; it may accept an interim arrangement or may insist on its named provider.
An evaluation can explain equivalency, but it does not guarantee admission, transfer credit, licensure or employment. Those decisions remain with the competent receiving authority.
USA credential evaluation FAQs
Who decides whether a Nepali qualification is accepted by a USA university?
The U.S. Department of Education says the school or higher education institution receiving the application is the competent authority for recognising previous education for study.
Does the U.S. Department of Education evaluate foreign degrees?
No. The Department states that it does not evaluate foreign qualifications or endorse a particular credential evaluation service.
Do all USA universities require credential evaluation?
No. Some evaluate records internally while others require a named service or report type. Follow the admissions office instructions before ordering anything.
What is the difference between document-by-document and course-by-course evaluation?
A document report generally identifies credentials and comparability, while a course report may list subjects, credits and grades. The receiving institution decides which type it accepts.
Does credential evaluation guarantee admission or transfer credit?
No. An evaluation is advisory evidence. The university still decides admission, prerequisites, GPA interpretation and how credits apply.
Can MKS Education issue an official credential evaluation?
No. MKS Education can help organise documents and requirements, but the university or its accepted evaluation service controls the official process.
