UK Student Safety Guide for Nepali Students 2026
Most student routines are safe when housing, travel, payments and digital accounts are managed carefully. Learn the university’s security system and store emergency contacts before an incident occurs.
Quick answer: Use verified accommodation and transport, protect bank and UKVI accounts, plan late journeys, keep 999, 101 and 111 contacts, and report harassment or crime through the appropriate police and university channels.
Important numbers
- 999: police, ambulance or fire emergency.
- 101: police non-emergency in the relevant area.
- 111: urgent medical help that is not a 999 emergency in the applicable NHS service.
- University security: save the campus emergency and out-of-hours number.
- Accommodation: save reception, maintenance and lockout contacts.
Accommodation safety
Verify the provider and contract, check locks and smoke alarms, follow guest rules and report repairs in writing. Do not let strangers enter secure buildings behind you. Complete an inventory and insure valuable items where appropriate.
Travel safety
Plan the route and last service, use licensed taxis or verified apps, stay in lit public areas and keep enough battery for navigation. Tell a trusted person about unusual late travel without publicly posting the empty home or full itinerary.
Money and tuition fraud
Universities do not normally change payment accounts through a casual message. Confirm account changes through a known university channel. Never share PINs, one-time passwords or remote-screen access. Be suspicious of guaranteed jobs, visa threats, parcel requests and offers to receive money for someone else.
Digital security
- Use unique passwords and multi-factor authentication.
- Protect the email connected to banking and UKVI.
- Install official apps only.
- Do not upload passport, CAS or bank statements publicly.
- Lock lost devices and contact the bank immediately.
Hate incidents, harassment and abuse
Students have the right to seek help. Report immediate danger to 999. Use police non-emergency, university reporting, students’ union, accommodation and specialist support as appropriate. Preserve messages, dates and witness information without putting yourself at further risk.
Alcohol, parties and consent
Know the route home, keep control of drinks, stay with trusted people and respect clear consent. A person who is incapacitated cannot consent. University services can provide confidential support after sexual violence or harassment.
Work safety
Check the employer, written terms, pay, hours and visa conditions. Do not pay a fee for an ordinary job, surrender a passport or accept cash work outside permitted conditions. Report exploitation through appropriate university or public services.
Frequently asked questions
Should I call 999 for a lost phone?
Use 999 only for an immediate emergency. Use police non-emergency and the network, bank or device service for loss unless there is danger.
Can university security replace police?
No. Campus security helps locally, but crimes and emergencies may require police, ambulance or fire services.
How can MKS Education help?
MKS Education can include safety, fraud and emergency contacts in pre-departure orientation. It does not replace police, medical, legal or university safeguarding services.
