USA intakes for 2027: match the start to your readiness.

A useful intake leaves enough time for a complete application, funding decisions, I-20 processing and the visa process.

01

Spring 2027 · January

A near-term option when the programme is accepting applications and your documents are ready. Check international deadlines now; some close well before the semester starts.

02

Summer 2027 · selected courses

A smaller set of entry options. Confirm whether your specific degree allows a summer start and whether the required courses will be available.

03

Fall 2027 · August / September

The main planning window for many students. Research academic fit, scholarship and assistantship deadlines early, before the final admission deadline.

Deadline example: UCM lists November 1 for outside-US spring graduate applications and November 15 for proof of financial support. Treat these as school-specific published deadlines, not a nationwide rule. Check UCM’s current admission timetable.

Explore our current collection of 3,700 US institution and campus profiles. Search by university, course or location and compare the options that match your study level and goals.

Why study in the USA?

Choose an academic experience that moves you forward.

Look beyond a university name. Match the curriculum, learning environment and support to what you want to achieve.

01

Broad subject choice

Compare computing, business, engineering, sciences, arts and other fields. Examine the modules, prerequisites and opportunities to explore interests across disciplines.

02

Research and practical projects

Look at laboratories, faculty interests, capstone projects and the work students actually do. A strong programme fit matters for both learning and future research.

03

Funding opportunities to investigate

Research undergraduate merit awards and graduate assistantships early. Compare the remaining cost after a confirmed award rather than focusing only on the headline discount.

04

Skills and a wider professional network

Build communication, teamwork and specialist skills through academic and campus activity. Evaluate careers support and authorised practical-training opportunities alongside the degree.

After +2

Plan your US bachelor’s pathway.

A US bachelor’s degree typically takes about four years. Course choices and credit planning shape both your academic experience and the total budget.

  • Match your +2 subjects and results to the programme’s entry criteria.
  • Check SAT policies for both admission and scholarships.
  • Compare majors, general education and graduation-credit requirements.
  • Budget for every year, including housing, insurance and summer plans.
  • If considering a transfer route, confirm credit transfer and the final degree pathway.

After a bachelor’s

Choose graduate study with a clear purpose.

For a master’s or PhD, connect your previous study, work or research to the department you want to join. Duration, credits and funding vary by programme.

  • Check how the university evaluates your Nepali qualification.
  • Review GRE or GMAT requirements and any programme-specific prerequisites.
  • Prepare a strong statement, references, CV and research material where required.
  • For research degrees, assess faculty fit and funding conditions.
  • Read assistantship duties, duration and renewal terms in the written offer.

Scholarships & assistantships

Compare the award—and the cost left to pay.

Funding can change your shortlist, but the written conditions matter as much as the amount.

01

Undergraduate merit awards

Check academic and test requirements, award deadlines and renewal GPA or enrolment conditions. Ask whether a quoted award applies for one year or can be renewed.

02

Graduate assistantships

Teaching or research assistantships may include a stipend or tuition support, depending on the department. Apply early and confirm the workload and uncovered fees.

03

An itemised net budget

Separate tuition, compulsory fees, insurance, housing and personal spending. Subtract only a confirmed award and check whether it can support the school’s financial-document requirements.

Wichita State’s published 9-month example shows a $5,500 Global Select reduction if awarded, reducing that estimate from $36,300 to $30,800. Eligibility and the actual award must be confirmed with the university. View the official cost and scholarship example.

Study → practical training → next step

Understand the USA journey beyond admission.

Build your degree and career plan together, while following the conditions of your student status.

01

Study and develop your skills

Maintain your academic progress and consult your Designated School Official (DSO) before accepting employment or practical training. An internship offer alone is not work authorization.

02

OPT and eligible STEM extension

Eligible F-1 students may receive up to 12 months of OPT related to their major. Qualifying STEM graduates may apply for a further 24 months, with employer and other eligibility conditions.

03

Choose the next qualifying route

Use the experience to pursue suitable career or further-study opportunities. A later work status requires its own eligibility and process; a degree or OPT is not a guarantee of sponsorship or permanent residence.

Confirm the programme’s STEM designation, authorization timing and current rules with the school. Do not assume that every computing or business course has the same training eligibility. Read the official DHS F-1 practical-training overview.

04

Financial documents and I-20

Follow the university’s financial-document checklist and check the I-20 programme, start date and personal details carefully.

Questions before you apply

Study in USA FAQs for Nepali students

Start with clear answers about applications, funding, tests and the student-visa journey.

How can I study in USA from Nepal?

Choose an academically suitable institution and programme, meet its admission and English requirements, prepare your finances and obtain the school’s Form I-20. Then complete the applicable SEVIS and F-1 visa steps. MKS Education can help you organise the shortlist, application documents and preparation plan.

Which USA intake should I choose for 2027?

Spring 2027 may suit applicants whose documents and funding are already ready, but deadlines are close or may have passed. Fall 2027 gives more planning time and is the main intake at many institutions. Summer entry is available only for selected programmes.

What is the cost to study in USA from Nepal?

The four university budget examples on this page range from $24,887 to $40,970, with different published expense and credit-load bases. These are not fixed USA fees or personalised admission quotes. Compare tuition, fees, living costs, insurance, travel and government charges for your own programme and academic year.

Can Nepali students study in the USA after +2?

Yes, you can explore bachelor’s study after +2 if you meet the institution’s academic, subject and English requirements. US bachelor’s degrees typically take about four years. Transfer or community-college pathways need a carefully checked credit-transfer and total-cost plan.

Are SAT, GRE or GMAT compulsory for every US university?

No single test rule applies everywhere. SAT policies differ by undergraduate institution and scholarship; GRE and GMAT policies differ by graduate programme. Check both admission and funding requirements before deciding whether to take or submit a test.

Is IELTS the only accepted English test for the USA?

No. Universities may accept IELTS, TOEFL or other specified tests and qualifications. Required scores and possible waivers are institution- and programme-specific. Confirm the exact accepted evidence rather than assuming a general waiver.

Does an I-20 mean my US student visa is approved?

No. A Form I-20 is issued by an eligible school for the student-visa process. A consular officer separately assesses whether you qualify for the visa. Your documents, financial plan and interview answers must be accurate and consistent.

What are the F-1 visa and SEVIS fees?

The State Department student-visa page currently lists a $185 visa application fee, and DHS lists a $350 I-901 SEVIS fee for F and M students. These are separate charges, not a complete travel budget. Check current government, embassy and applicable issuance or service charges before payment.

Is there a fixed bank balance for every US student visa applicant?

There is no single school-independent dollar balance that fits every applicant. Follow the financial-document instructions and budget for your chosen school’s I-20, scholarship and sponsor situation, and prepare a credible plan for the whole course.

What is OPT and how does STEM OPT work?

Eligible F-1 students may receive up to 12 months of OPT related to their major. Qualifying STEM graduates may apply for a further 24-month extension, subject to the degree designation, employer and other rules. Authorization is required; this is not an automatic work entitlement for every course.

Are USA scholarships or assistantships guaranteed?

No. Awards depend on the institution, department, academic profile, application timing and available funding. Check the award amount, conditions, renewal rules, remaining costs and any assistantship duties in the written offer.
