Short-term accommodation is useful while learning a city, but extending hotel or hostel stays can become expensive, so set a search deadline and a realistic temporary-housing budget.

Calculate rent across the entire contract rather than multiplying by a rough four weeks per month. Add the bond, rent in advance, application or booking charges, utilities, internet, laundry, furniture, kitchen items and the transport cost created by the location.
