A Nepal-specific OCAD University guide covering Toronto art and design programs, portfolio-led admission, English, costs and immigration checks.

Important: A strong portfolio does not replace academic or English conditions, and meeting minimums does not guarantee competitive admission. No permit, PGWP, job or immigration outcome is promised.
Choose the creative route

Match an OCAD program and supplement to your goals

Studio and non-studio programs require different evidence.

OCAD undergraduate options span fine arts, design, digital futures, illustration, environmental design, advertising and visual and critical studies. Record the exact BFA, BDes or BA program, September intake, curriculum, studio access and material requirements. Graduate applicants must use the separate graduate portal and standards.

Studio BFA and BDes admission is based primarily on portfolio strength, while the BA in Visual and Critical Studies uses a writing sample and other supplemental material. The portfolio should demonstrate ideas, process, experimentation and authentic authorship rather than a collection of copied polished images.

Connect prior Nepal study and creative practice to the exact curriculum and a realistic professional direction. Research facilities, critique culture, material costs and Toronto opportunities. Do not frame the choice only around immigration or assume that creative employment is automatic after graduation.

The application and creative supplement have separate deadlines.

Undergraduate applications are submitted through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. OCAD currently has one undergraduate entry point in September. The reviewed Fall 2026 cycle recommended application by February 1 and portfolio submission by February 10, with later consideration only if space remained; verify the 2027 dates when released.

Applicants need official transcripts, a statement of intent and the required portfolio or writing sample. OCAD states that applicants without a full IB Diploma should show Grade 12 equivalent graduation and approximately a B or 70 percent final-year standard, while competitive creative review remains central.

The current undergraduate English page lists IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no part below 6.0 and treats results as valid within 24 months of the intended start. Exemptions are conditional and not automatic. Arrange official results and never assume a Nepal medium-of-instruction letter alone will be accepted.

Calculate tuition course load and Toronto material costs

Creative programs require more than tuition alone.

OCAD publishes international undergraduate tuition schedules by course load and term. The reviewed 2025–2026 schedule showed CAD 17,284.68 in course tuition for a three-credit Fall load before international levies, ancillary and mandatory fees. Use the current 2026–2027 table when available and match the registered credits.

OUAC and portfolio or document-evaluation charges vary by applicant category. OCAD also publishes health coverage, student association, technology, building and other mandatory charges. Production materials, printing, software, fabrication, equipment and field activity can vary substantially by studio course.

Add Toronto housing, food, transit, UHIP or required health cover, books, hardware, airfare from Nepal and an emergency reserve. Obtain course-specific supplies guidance before each term. Scholarships or part-time work should not be treated as guaranteed funding.

Verify OCAD DLI PAL PGWP and study-permit evidence

Creative admission and immigration eligibility are separate decisions.

IRCC lists OCAD University in Toronto under public DLI O19332928222, also named Ontario College of Art and Design University. The table shows graduate-program and PGWP-program indicators as Yes. Confirm the name and DLI number on every official document.

Verify the exact credential, duration, full-time registration and in-person delivery. Degree programs may differ from short, continuing or non-degree study. Current language, field-of-study and study-history requirements must all be checked; an institution-level Yes does not guarantee an individual PGWP.

Prepare the genuine offer, provincial attestation evidence where required, current proof of funds and a truthful study-purpose explanation. MKS Education can review the academic and portfolio checklist, calculate costs and organise the permit file; OCAD and Canadian authorities alone decide outcomes.

Keep a dated evidence file before submission

A search result or counselling note can become outdated between shortlisting and application. Create one folder containing the official pages relied on, the date each page was checked, written answers from the institution, the final fee and refund terms, and the exact application files submitted.

When a policy changes, compare the new instruction with the student’s application date, credential, institution, campus and personal status before deciding what applies. Do not silently replace an old document or reinterpret a rule from a headline. If the effect is uncertain, pause payment or submission and obtain clarification from the responsible authority or a properly authorised professional.

This evidence trail also improves counselling quality. The student and family can see which facts are confirmed, which are estimates and which remain conditional. MKS Education uses this approach to support transparent education planning while leaving admission and immigration decisions with the relevant institutions and Canadian authorities.
