University of Roehampton interview questions and sample answers

Open each question to practise a concise, natural answer.

1. Have you booked your accommodation?

Sample answer: No, I have not booked my accommodation yet. I plan to confirm it after my UK Student Visa is approved so that I do not risk losing money if there is a delay. I have already researched suitable accommodation near the University of Roehampton, including university halls and private options. I am looking for a safe, furnished room with bills, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities and a suitable study space. Before booking, I will check the contract, total cost, distance and transport route carefully.

2. How is your previous study related to this course?

Sample answer: I completed +2 Management with Computer Science. This introduced me to business, accounting, management and computer applications. It gave me a useful foundation, but much of the learning was introductory and theoretical. BSc Business Management is the logical next step because it will help me develop more practical skills in finance, marketing, project management, teamwork, innovation and strategy. I want to apply these skills in Nepal’s hospitality and business sector.

3. How will you pay the rest of your first-year tuition fee?

Sample answer: My first-year tuition fee is £17,628. I have received a £4,000 scholarship, so my net tuition fee is £13,628. I plan to pay the required £10,500 deposit through the university’s approved payment method. After that, the remaining first-year balance will be £3,128. My family has sufficient funds available to pay this balance by the university’s deadline. I may ask the finance team whether an instalment plan is available, but my ability to pay does not depend on an instalment plan.

4. Do you know your course start and end dates?

Sample answer: Yes. My BSc Business Management is a three-year, full-time degree with a September 2026 intake. The university currently shows in-person enrolment from 14 to 25 September 2026, induction week from 21 to 25 September, and Welcome Week from 21 to 26 September. I will use the exact teaching date and course end date shown in my final offer, CAS and timetable. I expect to complete the three-year degree in 2029.

5. What is a CAS, and why is it important?

Sample answer: CAS means Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. It is an electronic record created by the university after it agrees to sponsor an international student. It includes information about the university, my course and payments, and it has a unique CAS reference number. I need that reference number for my UK Student Visa application, so I will check that all details on my CAS are correct before I apply.

6. What are the UKVI living-cost requirements?

Sample answer: For a course in London, the current Student Visa financial requirement is £1,529 per month for up to nine months, which is a maximum of £13,761. For a course outside London, it is £1,171 per month for up to nine months, or £10,539. I am in the London category because the University of Roehampton is in southwest London. I must also show any unpaid course fee stated on my CAS, unless an exemption applies to my circumstances.

7. Who is funding your studies?

Sample answer: My parents are my main sponsors. My studies will be funded through family income, savings, rental income and an official education loan. My father runs a business with annual profit of about NPR 1.5 to 1.6 million. My mother earns about NPR 60,000 per month. Our family also receives approximately NPR 75,000 per month in lease income and NPR 50,000 per month in house rent. In addition, we have an education loan of NPR 5 million from Kumari Bank. These sources are documented and sufficient for my tuition and living costs. I will use the exact figures shown in my financial evidence.

8. What do you know about the University of Roehampton’s history?

Sample answer: Roehampton’s educational history goes back to 1841 through Whitelands College. The university developed from four historic colleges: Whitelands, Southlands, Digby Stuart and Froebel. The four colleges joined to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education in 1975, and Roehampton became an independent university in 2004. I value this combination of a long educational tradition and modern, career-focused teaching.

9. Where is the University of Roehampton located?

Sample answer: The University of Roehampton’s main campus is on Roehampton Lane, London, SW15 5PJ, in southwest London. It is a green campus near areas such as Richmond, Putney and Wimbledon, while still giving students access to the opportunities of London. I prefer this environment because it is peaceful and suitable for focused study.

10. Why did you choose BSc Business Management?

Sample answer: I chose BSc Business Management because it connects directly with my previous Management studies and my career plan in Nepal. The course develops practical business skills through case studies, live challenges, projects, reports and presentations. I am particularly interested in accounting and finance, enterprise project management, innovation and strategic management. These areas will help me understand budgeting, people, risk, operations, decision-making and long-term growth. I will use the module list shown on my current course documents because planned modules can change.

11. Why did you choose the University of Roehampton?

Sample answer: I chose Roehampton after comparing course content, tuition cost, location, practical learning and student support. Its southwest London campus gives me access to London in a greener and quieter study environment. The £4,000 scholarship also reduces my first-year fee. I value services such as Nest, which provides academic, personal and practical support. Overall, Roehampton offers the best fit for my learning style, finances and career plan.

12. Which other universities did you compare?

Sample answer: I compared Roehampton with Middlesex University and the University of Westminster. I considered the course structure, practical learning, tuition fees, scholarship, location, campus environment and student support. I did not choose Roehampton only because it was cheaper. I chose it because the overall combination of course relevance, practical teaching, campus setting and support matched my goals better.

13. Why did you not choose to study in Nepal?

Sample answer: I respect Nepal’s education system and I considered studying at home. However, I want a more international and practice-based business education. Growing up around my family’s restaurant in New Road has shown me that business requires financial planning, staff management, customer understanding, problem-solving and adaptation. Studying at Roehampton will let me work on practical business situations and learn with people from different backgrounds. My purpose is to gain these skills and return to Nepal to use them in the hospitality sector.

14. What are your career goals after graduation?

Sample answer: After completing my degree, I plan to return to Nepal. My short-term goal is to work in an operations role in a well-established hospitality business in Kathmandu, where I can build professional experience in staff coordination, inventory, customer service, finance and daily operations. My long-term goal is to establish Dolakha Food & Hospitality in Kathmandu, serving authentic regional Nepali food and sourcing quality ingredients from farmers in Dolakha. The degree will help me plan, manage and grow that business responsibly.

15. Why will you return to Nepal?

Sample answer: My family, long-term career and business plan are in Nepal. My family already operates a restaurant, and I want to develop my career in Nepal’s hospitality industry before establishing my own business. The purpose of studying in the UK is to gain practical, international business knowledge that I can bring back. My professional network, market knowledge and future customers are all connected to Nepal.

16. What will you do if your visa is refused?

Sample answer: I would first read the refusal notice carefully and identify the exact reason. I would contact the university’s international student or immigration-support team and take qualified advice before making any decision. If there were a correctable error, I would address it properly and only reapply when I met all requirements. I would not provide false information or submit another application without understanding the refusal.

17. What is your accommodation and monthly budget plan?

Sample answer: I will prepare a realistic monthly budget for accommodation, food, local travel, study materials, phone and personal expenses. I will compare university accommodation with private rooms and confirm what bills are included before signing a contract. My budget will be supported by the funds shown for my visa and by my family’s financial plan. Before the interview, I will use actual researched prices rather than guessing.

Make every number consistent across the interview and documents

The interviewer may compare the spoken answers with the visa application, CAS, bank statement, loan sanction letter, sponsor documents and fee receipt.

Confirm the course fee

Gross tuition is £17,628; after a £4,000 scholarship, the prepared net figure is £13,628.

State payments already made

Explain every funding source
