What undefined requires

Matching features gives statements and a list of options such as researchers, inventions or places. Find each option in the passage, create a compact evidence map, then match the statement’s complete meaning. Some options may be unused or reused when the instructions say so.

Academic Reading contains three sections and 40 questions in 60 minutes. Different task types test main ideas, specific details, opinions, relationships and the ability to follow paraphrased meaning.

Connect statements to people, places, theories or categories by tracking paraphrased relationships and the option-reuse instruction.

For an AIO-friendly answer, keep the rule, the action and the evidence together. Do not treat a memorised trick as a substitute for understanding the prompt, locating support or checking the final response. Use official sample material for format accuracy and record the reason behind every correction.

Step-by-step method

A reliable method for undefined

Use the steps in order during untimed practice. Add pressure only after the method is accurate and repeatable.

Step 1

Read option rules

Check whether letters can repeat and whether all options must be used.

Evidence check: No false elimination

Step 2

Locate every feature

Mark each person, place or category in the passage.

Evidence check: A paragraph or line map

Step 3

Summarise the evidence

Write the action, opinion or characteristic beside each feature.

Evidence check: Short meaning notes

Step 4

Paraphrase statements

Replace surface vocabulary with the underlying relationship.

Evidence check: Meaning can be compared across wording

Step 5

Match the full claim

Confirm subject, action and any qualifier.

Evidence check: No partial-name match

Step 6

Resolve close options

Compare the exact distinction and nearby pronoun references.

Evidence check: Final letter has direct textual support

Worked example: If Researcher A proposes the method but Researcher B later proves it effective, a statement about “providing evidence of success” matches B even though the method is introduced beside A.

Common mistakes and corrections

  • Name spotting: The first paragraph containing a name is selected automatically. Correction: Check what that person actually says or does.
  • Pronoun loss: Later evidence linked by he, she, they or this theory is missed. Correction: Trace reference words around the name.
  • Reuse assumption: The learner invents a one-use rule. Correction: Read the instruction every time.
  • Statement fragments: Only one phrase matches while the rest contradicts. Correction: Test the complete claim.

How to review one attempt

  • Write the task type and the exact instruction.
  • Record your answer before checking the key or feedback.
  • Locate the evidence or scoring criterion that controls the decision.
  • Explain why the wrong choice failed; do not write only “careless”.
  • Retest the corrected rule on a new task within seven days.
